Finally finished the Superjet '85 Monte Carlo PM. The stripes are clear decal paper painted with gold lacquer. Got the paint a little too thick on them which made it difficult to smooth out. Still improving with application...not putting paint on so thick now and able to control the paint flow through the brush better. Also did not have as many mistakes to cover up on this one . But now that I see the pictures, I can see several . Another car bound for Ebay.

Some of the pre Winter Nationals track work going on. Adding more power taps at end of track. Should have done this in the beginning and also should have ordered another track section with taps already on it. Don't know what I was thinking. I think I was just dazzled with the idea of getting the Max Trax at the time . I was a little apprehensive about dremeling and soldering on the track because it seems to melt pretty easily. But everything went super smooth and I had no problems. Got a very solid solder connection. Material is very easy to use the dremel on as well. I would recommend that anyone ordering a custom track order extra power taps even if you are not sure you will use them. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!

I agree with that. I ordered a couple of extra tracks with power taps for mine after installing the original track. I was worried about grinding on the track. Glad to see it worked well for you. You will find that your cars will all pick up some performance with the extra taps even the slower ones, nice work.

I checked with Paul at Max Trax about ordering another piece, but it was going to cost too much in shipping for just that one piece of track. He told me that it was fairly easy to do if I wanted to try it myself. I had additional power taps on my sectioned track and it did help performance. By the way.....the IR lighting experiment did not work out like I had hoped. The lights do work and the idea will work, but those particular lights are not strong enough to operate the sensors at 3ft. Lighting distance for security lighting is 20m with these so I thought they would be good at 3ft. I tried using two lights together and it was better, but still not quite strong enough. I will need more powerful lights for it to work. The price goes up significantly which defeats the purpose of the idea. At this point I am looking at lighting similar to what Sam is using on his track. 120v xenon puck lights. I am a little bummed and have not completely given up on the idea yet, but I'm not going to go out of my way to try and make it work. I will post more findings as I go.

That's wild, thinking about the same thing at the same time!!
Was wondering if putting those IR emitters closer, say 1', if they would work?

That's wild, thinking about the same thing at the same time!! Was wondering if putting those IR emitters closer, say 1', if they would work? Yes they will definitely work at a distance of up to 2' as they are right now, but I am try to keep from having stuff hanging below the florescent fixtures. I have already decided not to pursue the idea any further at this time. I'm not out much money for the lights and just purchased some 120v xenon puck lights like Sam has. I will mount those to the florescent fixtures and tie in the electrical there. They came in a (5) pack so I could remove my start and finish gantry's altogether if I choose too. I kind of like my gantry's, but the thought of a completely clear track does appeal to me. I will figure it out when the time comes. I would still like to pursue the IR lighting idea but it is going to be more involved than I wanted right now. Like I said before, the cost jumps dramatically on that type of lighting when you move beyond what I have now. You and I know it doesn't have to be that way because the components are super cheap. So I'm sure I can build something that would suit my needs. But that will require more time than I have at the moment. Sam has had good luck with no problems using the xenon lighting so I feel confident going that route. I got the additional power taps installed in the track and all wired in. Made a couple of runs to makes sure everything worked ok. Have not run any cars for time yet to compare, but I know it helped. Track fine tuning will continue up until the race. I will be testing it at the same time I am testing my cars.......which I need to get started on.

Bringing back some old favorites for the 4 gear Outlaw list. My blown '62 Thunderbird and twin turbo '66 Biscayne representing Ford and GM. I hope they have enough.
There was some tuning action at the track tonight. Final runs for PSO and Doorslammer cars and making some final adjustments to the Match cars. What a variety. Here are some shots from the rail.
NT/F dragster is always a blast to run and laid down some solid passes. It's ready for competition.
Pro Stock bike was testing tonight. It's running better than ever, but I still don't think it will be enough to get past that Eagle Racing bike. Super excited for this race. But I'm always excited to race .

I have now had the opportunity to run some cars down my track since adding the extra power taps. The cars are performing better, but the track just seems to run smoother now. I saw that with my sectioned track as well. Taps are at the start line and at about 12 ft. Lanes are running identical to each other. Bear Creek is ready and running better than ever!!

Sounds good Jeff, looking forward to running on your new setup. Those times on your dragster are similar to mine. Should make for some good racing. I made several passes with mine at 26V and it held up. I think the narrow tires are helping it live as you mentioned. Just clean the tires lightly with a damp cloth before the runs if you will as I used no traction additives for fear of breaking the gears.
