Since the Spring Nationals I added wheelie bars to my F.E.D. to eliminate any deslotting ( hopefully ). Made one run with it after putting them on and made a smooth .498 pass. Put the car up and started working on my 2nd F.E.D. I have another motor that is the twin to the one I've been running. Been having lots of gear problems. Seems that at the .500 threshold the stock gears shred. I have not found any amount of shimming or otherwise that helps. So I referenced Eagleracing's idea and built a "hybrid" cluster gear. Then adapted another crown gear and whalla.....so far so good. Got the gears lapped and cleaned it up lastnight. Threw it together this morning before work ( I couldn't wait )and made 2 passes on a dirty track. Gears held up...1st pass .512...2nd pass .516. Still have some tuning to do, but I think I can get it into the .4's. Working on my first MM/PS as well. Looking forward to running at Drag City!!! Jeff

Just finished decals and clear coat on 2nd F.E.D. This is my second attempt at 2 tone and first try at pinstripe decals. Very difficult....my hat is off to all of you detailers!!! Have a few things left to do on it though. The body is actually mounted on my 1st chassis. Still having crown gear issues on 2nd chassis. Going metal. If I mess that up, there is no help for me. The good thing is I'm making enough power to tear the gears up in the first place and I am learning a lot. Trying to focus on the positive here because it sure is aggravating That's Racing!!

Thanks TGM, I appreciate the good word! Not much to that body. I had a little trouble getting the front wheels to touch the track, but I got it figured out I think. Trying to get better and keep up with you guys. Jeff

Got a prototype bronze gear from Eagle to put in my 2nd F.E.D. Had a little difficulty with shimming and installing. I haven't worked with metal gears before now. Got it installed along with my own version of the hybrid cluster gear......very nice!! Ready for lapping and then testing. Made my first modified crown gear and soldered the hub instead of bonding ( both cars have soldered hubs on the crown ). Also built another cluster gear. Both are for the #1 F.E.D. Don't expect anymore issues with the crown, but the weak link could very possibly move to another part. Testing will tell. All of this is a little too last minute for me, but I never anticipated all the gear problems that I've had. Fun, frustrating, etc.....I wouldn't have it any other way!! .

Well....the saga continues for those who care. Got everything together on the 1st F.E.D. Gears felt really good, solid , and smooth. Made some test blips and put down 2 full throttle runs ( .498 and .465 ). 3rd run destroyed top cluster and #2 top gear. I secure the cluster rivet on the bottom with super glue to keep it stable after tightening it up. It looks like it loosened the rivet which caused the failure. Drag City's traction is only going to exploit these issues more. Going to finish up mm/ps and 2nd F.E.D. then make 1 more attempt this weekend. I just can't make myself "detune" the car. Shipping on my normal time Monday no matter what. This car is fast...gotta get it in the show!
O.K.........At least I didn't blow the crown or the bottom cluster gear again.....lol.

I think you should detune both those F.E.D.s it's obvious you are not ment to go that fast cuzzo. Maybe a belt drive would work better for you

Thanks for the support???......lol....lol. That would work well for you if I detuned, but that ain't happening. Going to get cars together and send. If they break, they will break in Colorado. Be careful, like I told Pceng, karma has a funny way of coming back around. You are running the same gears I am. Maybe you and your magic wand will get you thru without issues. I obviously am not that lucky.

LOL...support you have gotten plenty of that cuzzo. I told you when you setup the gear to make sure the crown is even with the cluster. This is before you glue it to top cluster. That way you can see the gear mesh. If it is above it a little it will push the top cluster up and cause the number two gear to strip.

Yes you are right about the support and I do appreciate it! Thanks for the advice and I will double check, but I did look very closely at that during install and I don't think that is what happened. Clock is ticking loud in my head right now.

This track is bitchin!! I know that dates me but it was the first word that came to mind. With the lighting you have I think you could get away with mounting the eyes in the slot. It takes some drilling skills because the eyes are wider than the slot but it is doable, I have done it. Also, if you are racing two dragsters that double count you can also set the system for two laps. Hokey but it works. I was wondering if I could post some of your pics at the SD site on our "Customer Tracks" page. Please let me know and if you want your name and state and any other info I could write. Would you like a Tree with a longer cord? We are making them with 22 foot length now. If I could use your pics only at the place specified I would love to send you a Long Cord Tree no charge. Thanks, great track, proud to be part of it and that's not just me, everybody here at SD. Daniel

Hey Daniel, I have no problem with you posting pics of the track on SD site and you are welcomed to use them any way you see fit to promote your product. Track name is obviously Bear Creek Dragway and location is North Texas. Funny you should mention mounting the eyes in the slot. I was just thinking about that. I still have not got the lighting dialed in to where I am comfortable with it. It is more the type of light than anything I think. I want to do some fine tuning still. Been busy with some troublesome car builds for the upcoming race. Sometimes I do have the dragster double count issue so I'm interested in understanding what you mean about setting system for two laps. What does that do for me? Have you seen kiwidave"s cave thread? He also has a fantastic track that is utilizing the Slot Dragon system. Check it out too. If I can help any way, let me know. Would love to have the long cord tree as well. That's your call if you want to send it, but not necessary for you to use pics. I'm flattered that you want to use them in the first place. Thanks again.
Jeff
