Looks good! Thanks for the heads up Bill. Looks like I won't need to do the Cutlass.

Hopefully the mold is still intact and he is able to make some more of them.

Here's another update on the '94 Beretta build. I have sanded down the rear body spacers to the point that it is ready for body putty. I do not normally do my spacing like that. I will normally cut a few small pieces of styrene in the size that I want and glue them in place flush with the outside of the body. Then I will put a piece of tape over the outside of the body the full length of the cut and fill the void from the underside with epoxy. I know that's kinda hard to follow without pictures, but that way requires less sanding. The reason I used the big spacers was because after making my widening cuts on this body it was trying to distort. Doing it this way helped keep everything straight. So, as I said, I have sanded down the spacers. I needed a small amount of material on the bottom of the rocker panels and I needed to fill in the gaps behind the front fenders where the zoomies were on the diecast. I used JB Weld to accomplish this. I put a piece of tape along the bottom of the body and extended it below the rocker panel and then built up the epoxy from the underside. There is way too much material in these pictures. Most of it will get sanded away.

I have also decided to move forward with this build using the shorter version instead of the longer wheelbase that was discussed earlier. The longer version that I started building just did not look right at all. 1 or 2mm makes all the difference on this one. Not even going to post pictures of it because it's not up for discussion. Ya'll will have to take my word for it . Most of my bodies are more Pro Street than a full on stretched out Pro Mod, so the shorter version fits that better anyway. I am going to quote what Ecbill said on the last page because it very definitely applies to this body....IMHO.
Ecbill said:
A while back I read an interview with a Hot Wheels designer who said that they intentionally distort some of the features of thier cars bodies to make them appear more pleasing in small scale. According to him some of the details would look out of proportion if faithfully reproduced.

Jeff your Beretta is looking good. You said it mildly saying that casting is a mess. All the MM Nitro Coupe diecasts with the tilt hoods is a mess because they don’t seem to line up like they should plus the ones with opening doors make it hard too. The little I played with the Beretta I started was giving me fits. Can’t wait to see yours finished.

You saved me a ton of time and this one has definitely fought me the whole way so far as well, but it's starting to come together. I haven't done a full blown frankenstein build in awhile. I am excited about this one. I think it's going to be pretty cool?? We shall see.

I need to be tuning some cars for GTS's race, but I fired up the casting table today and have been putting time in on the Beretta as well. Went ahead and sanded the rocker panels down and slightly reshaped the rear of the front fender opening. Also filled in the holes in the rear deck from the die cast version. The hood had a slight roundness to the top so I've been working that with a flat sanding board to flatten it slightly. All small mods, but definitely have a noticeable effect. The beginnings of the rear spoiler is in the foreground. Haven't decided exactly what I want to do there yet. I'm starting to get anxious now, but there is still a lot of work left.

I had no idea how tough it was to make a mold.

I love it that you're sharing these steps I am glad that you appreciate me posting this stuff. Hopefully others do as well. I hope to inspire others to pick up the paint brush and tools and start doing some customizing in any form....casting, painting, etc. I will post on this project all the through the mold making process.

Another '94 Beretta build update. The rear spoiler/air foil is completed and on the car. I have also blanked off the blower opening in the hood. The post for the body mount will attach to the blank off underneath and the blower or scoop can sit on top. The scoop option will require some body filler if used, but I want it to be an option. The pictures are shown mocked up with a blower. The spoiler is a piece of credit card (thank you Hilltop for the tip) that I cut to length and then heated and bent into the shape that I wanted. There were a lot of different styles of spoiler that I could have made. This one seemed to fit the build best. I want everybody to know that this build is a worse case scenario. Although there is some work that goes into making any casting, this one is a "frankenstein" and the body parts did not want to go together easily. Most normally aren't quite this involved. Almost ready for the bodywork stage. That's when it stops looking like frankenstein and more like a real car .
With these and all of my postings I hope to inspire others or at least show how some things are done. My inspiration and techniques have come from seeing others postings or tips from some of our premier customizers on the forum. These and many many other tips and techniques can be found right here on this forum. You just have to be willing to go look for them. More to come......

We really need to have a tech section like we used to have before the site shut everything off.

We really need to have a tech section like we used to have before the site shut everything off. We still have and have always had a Paint and Tech section at the bottom of the main forum page on the Board "Painters Corner and Tech Tips. On that Board are (4) Sub Boards...."Painters Corner", "The Chop Shop", "Resin Connection" and "Tech Tips". The problem is people post stuff all over the place, so going back to find something can be difficult. I try to post stuff where it should go if possible. If it's a project that I am working on I usually post it here on the Bear Creek Dragway thread. If it is a "How to" or something like that, I will post in the appropriate area. But we do still have a specific area designated for that kind of information....FYI.
