On Saturday we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Last Drag Race at Lions Drag Strip at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, Calif. We displayed our HO scale slot car drag strip, which is modeled after Lions circa 1972, at the Lions Reunion. The turnout was great, with more than 400 racers and fans at the event. Dave McClelland, the voice of NHRA drag racing, and museum curator Greg Sharp hosted panel discussions by noted personalities such as Don "The Snake" Prudhomme, Tom "The Mongoose" McEwen, Roland Leong, Ed Pink, and many more. The slot car drag strip was busy throughout the evening as wives and husbands, and grandchildren and grandfathers, once again raced at Lions Drag Strip.
We set up the Lions Drag Strip model in the meeting room at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, Calif., for the Lions Reunion.
The top end at Lions was decorated with memorabilia from back in the day.
Overall view of the Lions Drag Strip starting line, with return road and timing shack in the foreground.
Dozens of racers and fans relived racing at Lions Drag Strip on the scale quarter-mile. That's Joe Amato's Top Fuel dragster suspended over our heads!

Super Stocks, Top Fuel dragsters, Funny Cars, and Pro Stocks turned out for the Lions Reunion.
Don "The Snake" Prudhomme squares off with Tom "The Mongoose" McEwen in one of drag racing's most celebrated rivalries. Lions starter Larry Sutton is the man in the middle with his trademark black cowboy hat. Thanks to SKR for modeling the Hot Wheels Funny Cars!
Linda Vaughn, Miss Hurst Golden Shifter, waves to the crowd during pre-race parade.
Mike Fons' Challenger versus Landy's Charger in Pro Stock action at Lions Drag Strip.
A special appearance by the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile slot car at the Last Drag Race.
The staging lanes are filled for the Last Drag Race at Lions on Dec. 1-2, 1972.
Many thanks to my long-suffering wife, Franca, who pulled assistant Racemaster duties at the Lions Reunion.
Thanks!
Racemaster Rick
