If the volts are to high it might blow out the L.E.D.s, but you can use something like an old cell phone charger.

I have the AW drag strip and planning on convert the power over to a train transformer. Why? Do you have the power pack that comes with the set? My question is can I run the tree, red light sensor, win light on the AC side on the transformer I really don't think so. Now I do not have an AW drag strip or have ever seen one besides photos and in the box. Even without having seen one, I am certain that everything about the set is DC powered. All of the lighting and timing for the set is micro-controller controlled which is DC powered. Separating the lighting and sensors from the from the micro-controller will render the system useless. If you know of someone who has done the things you want to do, I would seek their advice before dissembling anything.

Cut the plug end off of the charger and stripe the wires back so you can attach the one to the neg & and the other to pos. Start with the tree end first then run a jumper wire pos to pos and neg to neg for the finish line.

No your train transformer will put out too much power for the start track lights and sensors. And everything runs on DC. Phone charger is the answer! If I remember right the AW start track has 3 batteries. So each battery is 1.5 volts. 3 times 1.5 volts is 4.5 volts, so look for a charger that is 4.5 volts. If 4 batteries then 6 volts!
