Hi all,
As some of you are aware, I am currently pumping out some HO inline arms with a fair bit of oomph and I have a question.
This is mainly for the purpose of quality control. Earlier tonight I put together a 1.5 ohm arm to destroy just to see how durable it is, it has twin wound 38 awg wire (two 4' length), set up with 7/22 gears on a BSRT G3R / Decosmo T+ endbell, I tested it on a banked oval test track with 180" straights (12x 15" straights each side) at 28 volts, full throttle the entire time without backing off. It held up for 282 laps before it gave up and smoked up like a X-wing fighter slamming onto the surface of the Death star...
What I want to know is, at what voltage do people normally run at drag races and how many passes do you usually get out of a brand new low ohm (1 - 2 ohm) arm ?
And one other thing, if the motor magnets aren't strong enough to suit a particular armature, would the arm produce excess heat as a result ?
Thanks in advance.

In the NTRA it depends on what the track has available. For example the Blacktop Raceway can adjust volts for all classes. The fastest class is 27volts. Then other tracks may only be able to run at 13.8volts.
How many passes on low ohm arm? Assuming quaility arm like the big three BSRT, Slot Tech or Wizzard, I have arms that are over 10 years old with hundreds of runs on them. I also have unlimited road race arms with several races on them.
Magnets and excess heat: To know for sure set one up ceramic another poly mags. Run the cars equal amount of time stop and use heat proble to measure temp.

I guess principle of using the standard magnets as the control units to measure the other setups against would make sense.... Thanks.
