By simply attaching another DC motor to a dyno roller it's pretty easy to test a chassis condition. When voltage is applied the more current generated the better. Since the meter plugs in the spade connecters it will come off. Cheap and made with spare parts.

Very nice!! I like the setup and cheap to build. I've been wanting to build a break in station.....I think I might combine the two. What did you use as a coupler for the motor shaft to roller? Thanks for sharing.

I used a section of 16ga electrical wire insulation for the coupler.

I am trying to do the same thing but have a mental block as to setting up the rollers.

After going through about a dozen arms just to keep the "stable" of drag cars with in 10% of each other, I found changing out 440x2's to be a very challenging event to my arthritic hands. So, decided my next project will be a armature only dyno with easy arm change out capabilities, measurable (ohm) motor brushes, brush springs and voltage.

I guess there is a problem with the pic downloader... Any way, belay the previous post, that system don't work worth beans. Like I was saying tho my biggest dilemma is my hands not working too well with the small pieces (brush, brush spring etc) related to checking if an armature was any good or bad or even how good it is, I've found many of arms that will check out ohm wise but for some reason are slugs. So what I came up is a method where I can pop in an arm to test without having to deal with brushes, brush springs or even the magnets and it was much simpler than could believe. Ok the pic thing is working so here is an image of a P-3 motor section cut out and hot glued to a hinge, cut lengthwise in half, loaded up with the brushes and magnets hinged open notice how everything stays in place. Now all I have to do is put the P3 bearings on the arm and pop it in place like so

Hey JW, Li ke the hindge set-up, good thinking. Built a dyno some time back, always had problems with rollers and fell into undone purgatory. Have to check on it again. I understand the idea of reading the output in volts from VOM. Have you ever hooked up an ampmeter to one of the. dynos to see if the draw and output are correlated. Was just thinking that an ampmeter between power and track could yield same results in trems of comparing one arm to another. Not sure if the draw vs output are closely enough related. ........................................ PC

After a few trial and errors, think I've found a good platform for constructing a more defined armature dyno. Using two hinged p3 motors allows ease of access and the ability to make sure the brushes etc all ohm out the same before each test.
