I think you worry about that stuff too much. New people are coming in all the time. There is a wealth of information here both simple and highly technical. Something for everybody. We put on good events and have plenty of assorted classes to interest everyone. I don't agree about catering totally to the beginner. They need their attention, but there are all different levels of enthusiasts here and like I said....something for everyone. To think that someone new is going to come in here and click one of anything and be scared away I don't think is realistic. I see a pretty steady flow of new member names at the bottom of the page. Are they racing with us yet? Not all.......but some are. As for needing all the bells and whistles to compete. Well I haven't heard that from anyone. There have been questions about the various timing systems on another thread and we have been discussing volts and amps here. But These we're tuning discussions. I don't think anyone should be getting intimidated.

Was not trying to scare anybody away with the tech, etc. Surely do not want to scare any new racers away. I have to agree it takes a lot of test and tuning to get these cars to go quicker and if you are persistent you will get there. I do think however the more information you have will get you to your goal faster. In defense of the new system I ordered it is capable of running a bracket race which you can run a stock T jet against the fastest inline and still have a chance for a win. This race would be perfect for a beginner. I have to once again quote the full size car racers who are going quicker by using information gathered by computers and sensors mounted on their race cars so that they can download and read the information after the run.

Did not think you were. Just wanted to mention that any information you can gain is valuable. Incidentally the car that was overheating the brush springs had a bad armature in it.

Dave I don't think you're scaring anyone away. Those are informative discussions for someone looking to upgrade or just wondering how the timing systems work. I'm constantly learning things. FYI........we have run 3 bracket races through the forum. Two were earlier this year and all were run what you brung. You are right in that those could be appealing to the beginner racer....and everyone else. Do we want to do all bracket races? I don't think so, but it did seem like a good fit. A LOT more work though.

interesting, my experience has been that most HO drag racers prefer heads up racing of specific classes from stock to outrageous. the 1/24 guys seem to prefer dial in bracket racing with the occasional weekend event including heads up class racing. only a few from either group like index racing. but that is the best part, we can offer and participate in what interests us and spectate everything else.
nothing scary here folks LOL

Always have liked your set up Doug but I've never seen the whole thing. Looks good! I found out that I have the sickness. Doc says there is no cure. I'm doomed. Don't know if this will help with the pics, but I used a piece of 3/4 pvc with a rag over the top to steady my camera when I first started taking pics. I would just set the camera on top and hold it while I took the pic. Cut it to a length just above the track. Made a big difference in clarity. I have a cheap tripod now. The steadier the better. Looking forward to the race.
