Track up and running. Some lead dress etc. to do but ready to run except for the remainder of the shutdown. I added power feeds to the middle and end of track and to my amazement it made a pretty big difference in ET. The Green 55 picked up 7 hundredths in ET and 1 mph. I have further testing to do but that is a huge improvement about 7-10 carlengths in distance.

yeah, power taps make a huge difference. steel rails or small braid have a lot of resistance over long stretches. adding the power tap to allow better conductivity really boosts car's abilities. very professional. LOL

Thanks, guys. Will add some aestetics in the future. My initial ET improvement were slightly in error as I swapped 2 different length tracks shortening the track some. The actual improvements are in the 2-5 hundredths area with the higher powered cars improving the most. Anybody know where to get some trackside items to add to the appearance of the track.

Smoky Mountain Dragway a track you can really be proud of Dave ! Thanks for the great photos and details on it's construction. I'm going to get to work on my own track right away ! ....after Christmas and New Years of course; ....just as soon as the snow starts melting; don't want the wood all wet with snow and ice; ....really, ..... the best time to begin a project such as this is probably the Summer when it's nice and dry and .... ..........

Dave, Buildings and such might be easier to.make....... small cardboard boxes can be used for buildings. Easy to cut holes for windows, doors and such. Strips glued on here snd there add depth. Cellophane for windows , paint , logos can be cut from magazines snd glued to strctures. More of a personal approache....... ....... Peter

I wanted the track ready for the January race so I went ahead and "get er done". Having a little trouble with the sensors getting enough lite at times. With the old setup the lights were only about a foot above the track. Never any misses there. The lights are about 3' above here so I will have to add a few more. They are track lights and adjustable. Peter I will probably make some buildings and see what else is available. I found some stand decals which look OK on E bay so I might give them a try.

Dave ,
Let your imagination go....... some years ago I had a track up , all of the structures are at ,Doug's now. Doug , had a die cast with an exaggerated motor.......... I mounted it to a 3" screw which passed throigh a hole in table into an old music box mounted under table. Wound up the m box and.car.would rotate next to freeway entrance on race day. Can't wait to see what you come up with........ Peter

Shutdown solution? ?? Here is the latest idea on how to stop the cars, not my idea he thought of it himself. Only problem is if disturbed the car is sent flying....

Added steel stop track and more lighting. The stop track takes effect after the regular track ends, 3' of steel bars screwed to Masonite backing. Have run cars up to 30 mph, they are stopping good and just hitting cushioning at the end. Now have 10 50 watt lights for track lighting and sensors.
