keeping tires on the rims .....
which is why, when allowed, silicone impregnated foam tires (silifoams) should be used. the foam rubber is securely glued to the wheel, silicone is then applied and allowed to penetrate the foam rubber, then more coatings of silicone are applied. now, you have the best of all worlds. light weight wheel, light/flexible tire and ultra traction. properly produced they last many passes and are easy to clean.
to further address traction off the line ... the DRHOE (Drag Racing H O Extreme) guys spray gasket adhesive on the starting line and part way down the track. hell, for all I know they are treating the whole race surface by now.
so, one needs the best wheelie bars and possibly strong traction magnets in the type of outlaws DRHOE run when you get into THAT territory, metal(steel) pinions are necessary and Sintered brass or silicone treated brass crown gears. freezing the armature just before the pass helps keep the temp down and the ohms low throughout the pass. the armature will still be hot, but not as hot as it could have been.
but, I digress. silifoams answer all the questions regarding tire spin, wheel inside tire separation spin and slip on silicone tires expanding so big that they fly off the wheel.
