just wondered if many of you have blown up arms on the AW cars? I have fried a few recently, more than with Aurora tjets. I had one that threw the wires off the poles, others just smoked and died...

Never had any AW arms go bad. Of course the ones I have are all 14 ohm +. I did fry one older green arm and one custom wound one fairly recently. The custom one was not a very low ohm arm either. Still looks perfect but the readings on one pole are bad. Very surprising since the low ohm ones have held up.

I've had several in my 4gear cars, pretty dang frustrating. You can always tell when their going south and with aw arms there's no saving them.

Hey guys, Don't remember blowing any Aurora arms. Or maybe the frequency of AW arms going south the past few years has made me forget. Have one new ohm readings from 15.5 to 50.5. Several have shorted between plates. One almost.brand new, maybe 5 mins on arm. Thought brushes may have been soft (bad batch). But ran same brushes again for an hour non stop (break in sort of). Saw no signs of any problems. Could be combination of both brush and edges of comm plates being sharp. That caused build up between plates and short. Has happened several times that comm short's from build up.
Never checked all the arms that went bad but seems as if comm plate on the one that was new ate up brushes.

I have never smoked an AW arm....so far. I have smoked a couple of custom winds, but have had pretty good luck for the most part.

Duh....... just dawned on me. Never checked pitch on brushes. Or if leading edge (in relation to comm rotation) was to high causing undo wear.

I have only ever burned aurora stock 16 ohm, aurora stock christmas arm, aurora wild ones, aurora tuff ones, aurora mean green, aurora supper II, AFX stock, AFX red devil, AFX blue drag, AW stock arms, and many custom winds but that's it. All in different setups and race voltages.
