Me and my son had a match race last night with 2 black 67 Camaros. He had one with a T jet chassis that he ran in the Outlaw race in January. It ran very strong hitting speeds of 30 mph. I just purchased a black 67 that arrived today with a stock Jet chassis. It ran like a stock Jet hitting 4-5 mph. A challenge was issued. I had a full size car that looked just like that in the past, of course I drag raced that too. Of course I accepted. I used a junk Aurora AFX chassis and top plate I had. Used a similar armature and magnets to his setup. We raced before and after with his car running in the low .5s on my track with the Jet running 2.2 seconds, I lost by about 100 or so car lengths in the first one. After a lot of modification we had another race. I had the race until about the 1/8th mile point when he flew by and beat my by about 5 lengths. That's one for the Jets. Good race and he has bragging rights FOR NOW.

Well of course I could not leave this matchup alone. I worked on my car and found a problem with the stiffer brush springs I use for these hot arms. Put stock springs in, which usually melt, and the performance jumped a lot, especially in the speed department. Very little improvement in the 60' and the 330 but after that it came alive. Hit 31.28mph with an ET of .4865. Our next match race was a different story. His speed dropped to 24mph and the ET went down to .5782. Worse yet a bad electrical burnt odor was coming from the armature. We tried a few more passes and his car was going slower and slower. Slowed all the way down to 18mph and we stopped there. New armature will be installed and the saga will continue. Here they are lined up for the race: Dave

Final battle of the 67s for now. With the addition of the new drag armature hit Jet was flying!!! After he set the new speed record, not ET, for Jets we lined the up again. My car hit its best ever ET and speed and won the race by a whole 2 thousandths. We changed lanes and ran them again, this time his car won by .0008 or 8 ten thousandths. Both races were side by side and there would be no way to tell who won without electronics. This is what they looked like at the finish. He had the slight edge in MPH while mine did a little better in the short distances. Guess we will call this a draw for now and see what happens this weekend in the Texas race.

This is surely not the end of it. Seems like the Jet and AFX chassis produce similar performance once modified. His is a little faster but I have one with the same arm that I will challenge him with after this weekends race.
