These were done by Jeremy Rapp. They are SKR Drag Resin bodies that were hydro dipped (google, you tube it). Pretty cool technique for wrapping a body. Has anybody else done this? If so.... please share.

I have done many wraps but not this technique. Interesting, I have been checking it out. Looks like you are limited to printed film patterns.

The Dog has never done this himself but saw a show on Velocity where they dipped a whole set of car wheels and made them look like snake skin, they also make interior parts look like carbon fiber. Can't you see a carbon Hairy Canary Pro Mod Camaro. Just saying

I agree Dog. Wrap in carbon fiber throw on a light clear coat and paint on some flames then detail with decals. Would look killer.

Very Cool stuff. We had the nose of the Top Fuel car dipped in the Carbon Fiber pattern and it came out awesome until it got fuel on it . Needed to be clear coated. Never thought about small scale stuff. Did a google and found this site. www.mydipkit.com/index.html Going to order some next week and give it a try. Need to find out if and how to print your own art work on the film which would be really neat. Rick

Thanks Rick, I deleted those post. I wanted to rewrite with better info. The www.prostreetgraphix.com start up is at first more costly. The DIY kit I went with is $50 it comes with 10 sheets of blank film and activator A & B. The how to video is on the web site. The primer they say to use is a primer that will bond to plastic or resin. I already have that. I use Model Master Acrylic primer but any automotive primer that bonds to plastic should work. The base coat is whatever color you choose for example white, black, silver etc. I have seen red, blue, green it is just what you think will look best with pattern.
The cheapest printer that uses the ink required can be bought through www.epson.com Then select the store link on there page. The Workforce series WF-2650 All in one printer, is the one I bought. It was regular $129 discounted down to $89. So up front the initial cost is more total so far $139.
The B activator can be made to save that cost going forward. They will for $20 sell mixing formula or I found a cat out of Australia on YOU TUBE that shows how to mix it yourself.
The other kit you are looking at comes with everything you need, but with one pattern about 3 yards long. They show the kit on YOU TUBE also. I do a ton of painting of resin bodies. I do mostly road racing. The drag stuff everybody see's is just a small amount of what I do. So for me being able to design my own patterns and control waste is very important. The other kit for those that just want to give it a try would be cheaper.

Thanks again Robert this time with confidence. Though I was having another old guy moment. Got a chance to look a little more and found smaller quantities of the printed film on eBay. The prices on the printers to print our own is very do able. Got some ideas on some cool prints. This I think will be very fun not only for the slot car body's but can be applied to all kinds of other cool junk too.

Well I have just printed my first pattern onto my hydro film, next step seal the film and let it dry. While that is going on I will prepare the hydro bath. Getting close it will either come out great or not so great. Either way I will let you know.

Total fail, did not spray enough part B I guess. The film did not release completely. Time to walk away and try tomorrow.

ahhhhh the frustrations of learning a new process. I think we have all been there. Thanks for sharing the process with us. I haven't done the hydro dip technique yet and appreciate any tips you might learn along the way.

Yep you are right about that Sam. A new process and developing the correct technique for me. After reviewing everything I believe I did not use enough activator A or B. After looking at some video's I need to use a different high volume air brush. One thing when dipping is get the water as close to temp needed as possible out of the tap. If you don't you will be surprised how long you will wait for water to drop to correct temp. This will save you a lot of time. Stay tuned I will be back at it tomorrow....
