Finally dialed in the laser start finish sensors. Now can test and tune with just chassis:)

Very cool! I assume that is working with the Slot Dragon system? What components did you use? Thanks for posting.

Ok, I will try to explain what I used and did hopefully it will make sense.. As to parts I used four 3v laser pointers cut them down to the smallest size possible about 1.5", wired the lasers all in series running 3v. Also used the "Bondo photo eyes" that came with the Slot Dragon (now SD2) My main objective was to be able to run test and tune sessions just using chassis with no bodies. I mounted the photo sensors so just the top 1/4" sticks up above the track, covered each sensor with a tube that has a 1/16" hole about 1/8" from the bottom. Pointed the lasers at the little hole and make sure no other light gets inside the tube. Seems to work great, but I still have to put bodies on the T/F, F/C cars due to the use of wire frames, no problem with stock chassis regardless of brand. OK, resizing the first photo and seeing this newer photo have made me realize that you are putting a beam across the track for each lane. you should contact the guy at TrackMate with your findings. he has been looking for a way to accomplish that. I really like the concept and I think I have a wide enough track to accomplish that. if that can be accomplished with SD, then it can be adapted to other timing systems I would think. thank you for sharing your findings and explaining
