Wanting to upgrade the timing system on our AW drag strip. Looks like the Slot Dragon system is the only way to go. I am having trouble figuring out a few things though. The main thing is, what sensors do I need to get and is it worth the extra money to get them already installed in a piece of track? Also, as far as drag racing goes, there is no reason to get the SD2 right?

Okay, I found some more info on the SD website. Photo eye is what we are looking for I guess. Still not 100% sure on what we need as far as "straight leads" or "bent leads". I'm guessing the bent leads tuck under the track and the straight leads would need to be drilled through whatever the track is sitting on???

Dano I started out with an Slot Dragon timing system. The photo eye is what you want and if you can cut out under the track where the sensors will be installed, it makes it much easier to deal with them than trying to tuck them under. They don't get bumped around either. They don't like a lot of bumping. Sounds like you're on the right track. Trackmate also makes a Basic system that runs around $120 but you need an older laptop to run the program which adds about $50-$80 to the investment. It is a flawless system though. That is what I currently use on my track.

Thanks for the reply JJ! I'm ready to pull the trigger on one! Just wanted to make sure I'm ordering the right stuff. I looked at the Trackmate but I think the SD will be perfect for us bashing around in the man cave. Cool stuff!

dano, I have had several of the SD photo eye systems and they all worked well. I sold all but one, it was sent out in good faith and the person is MIA. I upgraded to a TrackMate DP3000 because I could. I highly recommend the SD photo eye for newbies so that they can get their feet wet without soaking their wallet
