Not sure if this is the right are to ask this, but I've been searching all over the site and haven't found the answer...
Does a set of rules/parameters/specs exist to build an NTRA legal drag strip...?
Thanks in advance...

build what you can fit into your space. I have 24', so I built a 1/64 scale 1/8 mile and have 6' of steel shut down. many people think that 15 to 17 feet is a scale 1/4 mile. if your shut down is too short you will bust cars up

I've got about 20' that would be a perfect spot for it...

No set rules! Tracks are built to suit the space available. My timed section is 15 feet 7 1/2 inches. More or less 1000 ft scale track. Having different types and length tracks just adds to the challenge.

Ron,
Like Dave said, there are no set rules. If I could have any length, I'd put in a 64th scale quarter mile however like many, I don't have that kind of room. My track is 15'3" timed. The group of hosting tracks here have a variety of surface and power options which does make it challenging. Take a look at the forum links under the NS logo on the home page. Go to "NTRA Hosting Tracks", this will give you an idea of everyone's track length, surface and power.
It's good to hear you considering installing a track, keep us informed on your build if you move forward.
Sam

Awesome guys, you cleared that up for me, I just wanted to design a track that was compliant with the NTRA rules... Sam, I have already drooled at the variety of tracks that I viewed on the NTRA Hosting Tracks page, Wow...!!!
Thanks all for your input, I got the info I needed, now time to plan, and I'll keep you all informed...

Beastworx I have 20ft of space that I am working with as well. I run 15' 7" (scale 1000ft) timed with just shy of 3ft shut down. The shut down does hinder running some of the faster classes, but I have run unlimited pancakes and a few really fast inlines here on MANY occasion with only one incident of breakage. A lot has to do with how the padding...towel...etc are set up. I started with a 2 lane Tomy sectioned track and in 5 years progressed to the Max Trax I have now. I am looking forward to seeing and hopefully racing on your track in the future.

Like you I'll be starting with plastic track, as I have a ton of it lying around, and I'll have to learn the tricks of getting the cars slowed down... A timing system is something I'll have to figure out as well... It's great to know that a 20' space can be made to be workable...
All the best...
