When using the Hudy comm lathe for HO you must have the small brass adaptors that go on the comm shaft seen here in these before photos: here is the comm after truing. In this case not to much was removed, maybe 6-7 thousandths. Most older arms that were run a lot need a lot more cutting , some do not have enough material to be trued. Some cheaper commutators will come apart with this process.

I have seen a few on E bay, few have the HO adapters however. I have had cheaper comms come apart when doing this. I generally try to take small cuts of .001-.002. This arm was a 40.00 one so it takes some guts to put that in a lathe. It improved the performance of this one but some times it makes very little difference. Depends on the wear I guess.
