Hi gang. Just registered here. Raced 1/24 drags since the early 90's, all over the midwest, lived in Illinois until 2000. Before that raced 1/24 wing cars and others on the 'big' tracks (in the '80's). Even ran the USRA circuit in the midwest and placed 5th in my 'rookie' year. Haven't raced for quite a few years due to no dragstrip here (I'm in south Texas now), AND I don't wanna drive 5 hours to get to the closest one! LOL!! ONLY drag race now, the others just got me WAYYYYY too stressed out...lol. Anyway..gonna work on building my own strip on my patio. I live in an apartment and have a 17 foot long fence that I can put it on. Maybe put an awning over it, since it RARELY rains here..lol!! ;D Probly gonna be a scale 1/8 mile, mostly due to costs and the fact that I have a VERY small budget! ;D Plus, it would be easier to make it portable. Any help on a VERY cheap power supply and timing system? Gotta be something portable, and relatively easy to hook up and use. Doesn't have to be 'the best' as it will probly only be me and my grandson using it. Maybe a few friends, but I really don't know all that many people here yet. Mostly just something to have fun with, and "Get my feet wet". One other thing..was reading some other posts here. What exactly is a 'Wall Wart'?? Is that one of those power packs for printers or something like that?

Thanks Sam. I'll be looking on here for ALL the tips I can get! BTW..do you sell cars on Ebay..or used to? I seem to remember a LOT of VERY sharp drag cars being sold on there by your name (SKR)! Even saved a lot of pics of those too! ;D Also..I forgot to mention that I have been an avid model car builder ever since I can remember..lots of contests and awards from those. Since 2001 I have been customizing 1/64 scale diecast cars (yep..Hot Wheels..lol) Even considered vacuforming or resin casting bodies over the years, but never seemed to get up enuff cash to do anything with that. I have an online photo album of my diecast, slots, models and other stuff. Not sure of the actual link, but just go to Photobucket.com and do an 'album search' for the name "Bondoman2k" (Capital B). It's a public album so no password is needed. Ron (Bondo)

Take a look around in "getting staged" there are some topics on power supplies and batteries that might be informative to you. This one is wild also.

Thanks Sam for the compliments ;D Yep..most of my flames are actually all handbrushed. I really like doing 'em too, altho it's getting harder to do lately (carpal tunnel). I also do autobody repair for a living (been doing it for 32 years) so I guess you could say.."Cars are my LIFE"! LOL!!! Cool to know that those cars I looked at before were done by you! Ron (Bondo)

Hi Bondo, I put my first HO drag strip together from plastic track mounted on a simple to store system that could mount on a fence and be brought indoors easily. I took 3 ten foot long 1"x4" boards and drywall screwed them together to form an "H" when looked at from the end. I then laid the "H" on it's side and put the Plastic track together in the "valley" of the "H". I took 3 more 6' long 1"x4" boards, screwed them together the same way, added more straight sections of plastic track and that was my shut down area. Only needed to use two Wall Warts for power, one for each lane although hooking up a couple of lawn mower batteries or such would be just about as easy. I put the Trackmate Semi-pro timing equipment wiring under the "H" and stapled it to the bottom of the track board. It worked really well till one of my Son's did leave it out in the rain here in "Sunny" Florida. I used two more pieces of board to attach the shutdown to the timed section and that way I could disconnect the power track from the shut down section quickly. Easy to do and didn't cost much. It was alot of fun and got me interested to where I had to build a perminent track when the portable one got ruined. I have another portable one going together in my garage now. (If I ever get the time to mess with it.) Good luck and hope you guys have as much fun as we are.
