Liking the slimey station wagon. I have a soft spot for wagons. Thanks Dave, it's been a fun build. I'm likin' that slimey color myself . The hue turned out better than I thought it would when being mixed.

Know what you mean about the airbrush blues. I have a new one that I don't quite have figgered out yet. Maybe some of the old pros would pass along some expertise. I tore mine down 4 times yesterday, to no avail. I think my problem is, #1, it's a chinese and they're kinda known for the seals being compromised after a while. I only use mine about every 6 months and then clean it and put it away. It did work okay a couple days before though. I'm gonna tear into it today and try some beeswax around the nozzle seals and see if I can get it operational. I'll report back.

Back in the early days of stock car drag racing when drag tires were pretty poor station wagons were used to go to the next higher weight class since they were a little heavier and also because there was more weight over the rear tires. This worked nicely in many cases. However one of the worst drag cars I ever saw was a station wagon that had been sectioned with the rear door removed cutting the wheelbase of the car down by about 3 feet. It was one of the worst handling cars I had ever seen, would not go straight for anything.

Well I'm no old timer or expert with the airbrush, but I have been using an older Paasche Type V for several years now and have worked through several issues. What kind of problems are you having?

Thanks for the offer to pass on some tips! I kinda think my main problem is I don't use it enough to even acquire enough knowledge to know what the issues are. After the race in three weeks, I'll be re-visiting the airbrush and spend some serious time with it and then I'll probably hit you up for some problem solving. I opted yesterday to go ahead and paint my last required body for the race, with an ol' single action that sprays like a rattle can but wanted to get it done and move on. At this point in time, I need to do what I'm capable of to get the cars running consistent. That is yet another challenge that my knowledge is limited on. The more I try to do, the more I learn, or at least have myself convinced of that .
Thanks again!

when it comes to tuning, and you probably already know ..... make one change at a time. if that doesn't show improvement you know you can take a step back (to the previous setup) and try a different adjustment. I'm sure you understand the need. also, it might help if you keep a small journal about each build and baseline data (ET, MPH .....) to track improvements and when the car starts falling off it's prime. hope you enjoy hosting as much as I do.

Good advice from Al. Be sure to take some breaks from the action when holding the race. Packing and return shipping can be a headache to, just take your time, we don't have to have the cars back immediately.

Thanks Al! I have trouble remembering what I did and to what car sometimes. You've inspired me to whip up a chart that'll help, I think. Now to remember to write down the data . Yes, I'm really excited about hosting and am sure it will be enjoyable. It will definitely be a learning experience but am confident I'm up to the task .

Packing and return shipping can be a headache to, just take your time, we don't have to have the cars back immediately. Thanks Dave! The way I'm setup should provide some break time sorta. I'll be doing all the racing, writing down info and photo taking at the track. Then I'll be bringing all that data out to the shop/garage to upload & post. I can relax a little, have a smoke and a soda, while data is uploading and posting. And just to clarify, no ones cars or packaging will be exposed to my nasty smoking habit as I never smoke in the house; thought I better throw that out there . Yeah, the packing & shipping should go pretty smoothly. I won't be getting in too much of a hurry as I want to make sure everything is packed correctly and safely, so ..... how ever long that takes. I'm pretty sure the latest any would get shipped back would be Wednesday, maybe Thursday. Hopefully that should work out for everyone . I'm really looking forward to the event. Kinda reminds me of Christmas when I was a kid, you know it's coming but you get anxious for it to happen, right now

It is a lot of fun actually running the races. There are ALWAYS some surprises in regard to the outcome of the races which makes it exciting. I have seen cars pick up a tenth from qualifying and others lose a tenth.

A good day at the track today . First off, painted the headlights& gas cap on the PU. And installed the glass unit. While that was drying and setting up I did some tuning and such. - Put bigger tires and a wheelie bar on the T-Bird and picked up a consistent .110 seconds improvement . - Lowered the magnets in the DR1 Jungle Jim with .040" styrene shims and picked up a consistent .120 second improvement . - Just cleaned and did some superficial tuning on the 4G PU chassis and it runs .250 seconds better now . It and the 4G wagon are running about the same. Still need to do braid on the two 4G cars, so expecting some improvement there also. Can any of these cars win? Doubt it . Are they competitive? More so .... and I'm tickled with that .
Plus my decal paper arrived today , so will have plenty of time to switch out some of those stickers .

Sounds like you are making progress and as General Electric once said progress is our most important product.

Must be the season of "The Hauler" . I was so impressed with the ones that have been posted from time to time, I felt compelled to acquire some too and I think it's awesome decoration for the track . I know the HHR with the trailer seems a little out of place but I have an 08 HHR Panel Van I bought new for a daily driver. Planning to work over the sedan to make it a Panel Van. Not that I'd ever haul a trailer that size but do haul a small trailer once in a while with staging & extra music gear for outside parties, works fine.

Just wanted to commend my track for not letting me down during the proxy race this weekend! It performed flawlessly! Well ..... it didn't make everybody a winner but other than that . Both lanes seemed as equal to each other as I was hoping for. The timing software worked as hoped for. The slow down area was adequate, only had 1 car during the 4G SS competition reach the towel ..... just barely. 4 cars reached it during the IS competition and only got in to it half way. I did have an issue during IS qualifying, one of the rails in the middle of the slow down, came up in about a 3 inch area. I quickly fixed it and glued it. The rest of the rail on the actual race track stayed constant, I checked it after each round. It is a little claustrophobic around the starting area when doing a proxy race but one gets used to the rhythm and flow after a short while. All in all I'm very pleased with it and super glad I built it.
It's a great track and hope to do many more proxy events with it . It passed the test!
