Curious what you guys are using for rear tires on 4 gear chassis when narrow rear wheels are tucked up inside the body.
TJet Hot Rod tires were mentioned in the past but Super Tires Hot Rod 430s are too narrow. I have stretched some Super Tires Rocket 452s which are just a bit too wide.
What works for you.

Bill I have used a combination of rims and tires, but have settled on either the DR-1 rims or AFX/AW due to the poor quality of the 4g rims.On the tires, I don't want to limit myself to a certain diameter just because it's the right width so I cut all my tires down for each build. When narrowing a chassis and rims, the track rails come into play with the tires. The tires not only have to fit the narrowed rim and body, but they have to clear the track rails as well. Valuable traction and speed are lost when the tires ride up on the power rails. You may already know this, but others may not. I use a dremel clamped to my desk with an axle and wheel chucked up in it. I mount the tire I want to cut down. I use my caliper to set the size I want and while the dremel is turning I kind of scribe a mark on the tire using the inside measurement jaws. They have a point that works very well for this. Then I use a razor blade to cut the tire. I set the dremel rpm's to a moderate level for this. It's really very easy to do.

We have been a little relaxed in some areas such as tire color to accommodate some new racers, but that's all. Would still like to see tires black for authenticity and keeping with forum history.

Yes, preferred tire color is black but I would never stop a racer sending in a car because of tire color.

Bill, yesterday I ordered some Super Tires from Frank the Racer on ebay. They are advertised as .510 mounted and designed to fit the AW 4 gear wheels. I won't receive them until later in the week, so all I know is what I've read. I've never used them but got them because of all the rave reviews on Super Tires. Here is a link to them. Hope this helps.

I use .490s but they don't fit under the body.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Up till now, I've been using stock replacement tires on the 4 gears, which usually requires cutting huge rear fender wells. Having the wheels and tires tucked up under the fenders like several of you guys do, looks so much nicer.
Thanks,
Bill

In my experiences with all the different 4 gear builds, ALL of them like a bigger tire than stock. I do not think that I run a stock diameter on any, not even stockers. I get the different diameters I need by stretching different tires over the 4 gear rim. This opens up a wide range of different diameters. There are very few different diameters available for the 4 gear rim. Both the urethane (Super Tires) and silicone (Jel Claws) can be done like this without splitting. They will split if not careful, but not very often. Jel Claw offers quite a few different sizes. The more variety the better. Narrowing them allows for use on tucked and lowered builds. I like when the cars look like real cars....and when they are fast too....that's even better.
