A few guys have asked about the Testors Plearl blue Aztek paint and thought I would share some experiences I've had with it.
Twice now, I've had the paint lift off when removing masking tape, while trying to paint details on the body. In both cases the paint was applied over Krylon Flat white primer. In one case it had a clear coat on top, but not the other. 1st time the tape was common scotch tape, the other was Tamia 2mm vinyl tape. Paint had a few days to dry prior to taping.
Recently tried Aztek pearl silver. Although it's clearly labeled silver and looks silver, in the bottle, it came out more like a pearl white. Applying additional coats didn't change much. Also have a bottle of pearl white. Wonder what that will turn out to look like?

For whatever reason, they come out looking more white...or anything but silver. I started using Duplicolor lacquer transferred into a bottle for the airbrush or straight out of the can for basecoats. The silver lacquer polishes I've tried do not cover very well and I have to put too many coats on. Happy with the Duplicolor results.

IMHO, Wicked Colors by Createx has the best silver in water base products. If you want it light spray a white primer for darker silver use gray or black primer. I only use Stynylrez primers. They are water base and are a Badger product. I spray a water base clear, Polycrylic a Minwax product. This is what works for me.

Eagle,
Good to know about the Wicked Colors. Seen them on eBay and was curious about them. Some of their color choices look sharp. Would you tell us more about the Minwax Polycrylic? Such as where you get it and quantities available. Does it produce a nice high gloss finish?
I may have to check out that primer you're using too.
The water based paints seem to make life simpler, and safer.
Thanks, Bill

What do you guys use for thinner with the acrylics? The Aztek paints don't require thinner, The are already thinned for airbrush use.

It is a very hard finish. It can be purchased at most hardware stores: Ace, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

What do you guys use for thinner with the acrylics? I use #0100 Wicked Reducer for the Createx Wicked Colors when needed. They make a #4011 Auto Flash fast drying reducer that I intend to try.

Thanks Robert. Do you use a thinner for any other acrylics besides the Wicked Colors? I found a homemade recipe that has worked well, but I was wondering what others are using. Paint can dry out in the container and need to be thinned sometimes. I do still use acrylics from time to time, so any tips are appreciated.

Got some parts soaking as I type this.

It seems to work well when I use the acrylic paints. I was hoping to gain some knowledge if one of you guys ever thinned any of the acrylic paint you use other than the Wicked Acrylics.

I have only used Wicked with one other type of acrylic paint, Aztec. It thinned it out nicely.

Thank you. I do still use some of the Testors Model Master acrylics and some of the basic Tamiya acrylic colors from time to time. That's why I was asking. I know most of those come ready to shoot, but they do dry out and become thicker in the bottle sometimes and require thinning. I will try the Wicked Colors reducer and see if it works with those paints also.
