When adding the shunt wire be careful not to restrict the natural movement of the pick up shoe(s). You want the same amount of play as you originally had. Additionally, with the braid it may sound silly, but is their a wheelie bar on the car? If so so try adjusting it. Dave you said you changed nothing but added braid, that could be enough to throw off your contact patch that you established on the shoes try the next size up tire and/or readjust the pick up shoes.

Thanks for the advice. I have installed shunts on many cars most of the time with little or no improvement. Never did they lose performance. I was always careful to make sure the shunts did not restrict shoe movement or change the contact patch which with braid is not as critical. I used very thin flexible silver shunt wire which is what I have used in the past with good results. It was a real mystery to me why this happened.

Is it a t-jet chassis? Are you allowed to drill holes to vent the motor? Are all the cars in the next race allowed to use shunt and braid?

Darryl this is the link to the next race Sign Up thread with the race rules. Hot August Nationals. nitroslots.com/thread/4676/2019-hot-august-nationals-augThis is the link to the NTRA rules. nitroslots.com/page/ntra-rulesPancake Comp is the build and it does not allow for drilling of the chassis. The only chassis mods are what is listed in the rules. Shunts and braids are allowed. All (3) pancake chassis are running....Tjet, MT/XT, and 4 gear. Also running are the Outlaw Lists. Pro Street Outlaw and Four Gear Outlaw. Both also are Pancake Comp builds.

So Jeff if I read the rules right all the chassises are allowed the same set up? If so , I do have one question which I'm quite sure has been asked and answered in the past. If that is the case when you say t-jet are you including wild ones and tuff ones because the rear gear on the bottom are different?

GTS is running the race in August, so he would be the one to clarify the Wild Ones/ Tuff Ones question. But I believe they would be allowed simply because any crown gear may be used with the Comp build. You can post any of your race rules questions on the race thread so he can address them.

Thanks for the response but I was referring to the pinion gear that are different which makes the crown different. Was under the impression that a pinion would be considered part of the "original top plate?"

I believe that "original top plate" refers to BRAND. no mixing Aurora and DASH or Johnny Lightning/Auto World parts. pretty sure that in the rules per the designated builds for this race it says "any gears". correction please if I am wrong.
PS ... after reading the rules again, it relates to the top gears on the gear plate. no lightened or CNCed gears? since AW/JL t-jet type chassis all come with the equivalent of Tuff Ones gear ratio, that should be legal. Wild Ones had the same gear ratio as regular T-Jets.

Al has it correct in his post above.
