Been selling items on E bay for several years now. Noticed they have now added another 8 percent tax which is taken from the seller.
Added to the 10 percent E bay fee and the 5% Pay pal fee there is little left for the seller. If I buy items for 100.00, sell them for 200.00, 44.00 goes to e bay fees. For the hours I have to put in buying, preparing, wrapping and shipping it is no longer worth it. It was once, not to long ago, about 12% for
both the e bay and pay pal fees. Now it is has almost doubled. That's enough for me, I will sell what I have left and end any sales thru
Fee bay.

Dave,
EBAY recently started collecting sales tax, thanks to our greedy state governments. The buyers pay the tax. Hopefully they haven’t come up with any additional taxes.

If I am reading my Pay Pal correctly they are taking the tax out of my payment and not charging the buyer. Thanks a lot e bay. I know the Govt. was behind it but you would think they would charge they buyer like every other store does, not the seller.

Getting really tired of all of these various entities wanting a piece of the pie!! I haven't been selling much on Ebay lately, but their fees, shipping, etc already cut deep into any profit. Luckily I don't make a living selling stuff there, just supplimental $$ for stuff I'm going to build anyway. Thanks for the heads up Dave! I will look into it further now.

I know the Govt. was behind it but you would think they would charge they buyer like every other store does, not the seller. I buy and sell on eBay. They charge me sales tax on every item I purchase. It does add to the total amount paid, then would be subtracted out before paying the seller. It should not come out of the seller’s portion. This all started because a few greedy states took it to court and forced the matter. All the remaining states that charge sales tax jumped on the band wagon soon after.

For the last year I've been using a PayPal Visa CC rather than my bank account and they have been charging state sales tax on all purchases whether it's ebay or another online vendor. I always try to take the extra into account when purchasing online but it is hard to keep up, seems like the state rate goes up every half hour or so . I personally have never minded paying sales tax, my big gripe has always been what it gets spent on. I do not understand at all, why they (ebay) would be charging the seller income tax. Will they be issuing a 1040 now ?? Seems silly to me.

I was informed that if you go over 10,000 in total sales, which includes shipping and tax, you will receive a tax form. Bill you were CORRECT. I looked at a sale again and saw where they did charge the buyer the tax then removed it from my payment further down on the sale slip which is what I looked at first. I sent a letter to our local govt., when this first started a couple of years ago, about the tax and they sent me a form letter back saying they have the right under current law to collect taxes on all sales. I agree with Gale that it is more about how they spend the taxes than paying them. Always corruption in all governments. Look at North Korea as an example of the worst.

The worrisome part about them sending a tax forms is that it will also be sent to the IRS, who will almost certainly go after us for taxes, on that “income”

A while ago ebay started to impose a sales tax on purchases here in the Great Empire State of N.Y. N.Y has the honor of being the highest tax state in the Mighty U.S. of A. It was restricted to only purchases from one N.Y. resident to another N.Y. resident. Now every sale is taxed no matter what. I live about 45 minutes from the Massachusetts border and do my clothes shopping tax free there. One day a I was approached by a person from the NY State taxation and finance department asking me if I had made any purchases in Massachusetts. I was seen getting out of my car with NY plates and it felt like I was being attacked by a SWAT team.I can be a hot headed Italian at times so I told the ******* dweeb to go *******. As many of us, I do not mind paying taxes but show me a positive return on my tax fee.The infrastructure where I live is a joke. Roads are full of pot holes and shoddy road repair. We as a country fought against taxation with out representation. Now we have excessive taxation with representation. Time for another tea party. Ha Ha.Needless to say I sell on Ebay when there is no alternative.

Vince I agree with you and I am also a crazy Italian who would have told him the same thing. Yes it used to be when the item was sold in the same state between buyer and seller there was a tax. Now it is on all purchases. Governments get power hungry and this is just another sign of it. Look at the current chaos between the two leading parties, all about power, insanity in my opinion.

There needs to the appearance they are cutting taxes, they are, for the wrong people. Then you have not enough revenue, so you dream up user taxes to make up short falls.

LOL!! In illinois we now have to pay taxes on a given trade-in when buying a car. Double taxation. Pay taxes on the car when you buy it and pay taxes on what it is valued at when you trade it in. It is then taxed when sold as a used vehicle! Go figure.

Seems like I hit a nerve here. Governments can sure figure out ways to bleed us. It is nothing new and has been going on since the stone age with no sign of ever going away. There has to be some taxing but the inept way things are handled is what drives all of us nuts. Taxing you on your trade plus the price of the new car?? Talk about a rip off. Here in Tenn. they do tax you on any car purchase. Think about it if I buy a car I am taxed on it if I sell it next week the next owner is also taxed on the same car. Pretty unfair. Should be done on a graduating scale where a period of time would have to elapse before the tax is paid again. Governments are to greedy to do that however.
