Yes it did. It was actually the quicker car supposedly running 10s in the 1/4 when it had the tunnel ram on which was very fast for the time. If I remember right it had a BB 427 in it which was not seen in American Graffiti but it was in its next movie. The same car was in 2 lane blacktop where it races a new GTO. Actually the GTO would have been far behind if there was an actual race. American Graffiti was the story of my youth with cruisin the local strip and going to the local diner where we had a race rivalry with another diner. Even had a fight between 2 guys over one of the races. We used to have regular street races on Tues. or Thurs. with crowds of 50-100 spectators. There was also a guy who was nicknamed Fonz as his last name was Fonzarelli believe it or not. He was a jerk however and was one of the guys involved in the fight.

Those were the days. My first car in 1962 was a 58 Edsel Pacer 2dr htp. It had cutouts of course and 4.56 gear I bought form Honest Charlies Speed Shop. Also had a used set of atlas bucrons I picked up at the local Standard oil station.

Memory's. Bucron tires were popular in the 60s with street racers, the soft rubber gave good bite but did not last long, especially with us Hot Rodders. I also remember 3000 rpm at 50 MPH with 4.56 gears.

So Falfaβs 55 from American Graffiti is the same 55 used in 2 Lane Blacktop? Thatβs pretty cool!

There was article a while back in Street Rodder on these two cars. The 55 was a monster with a L88 in it and the 32 was a slug. An under powered 283 and bad gearing gave the production team fits trying film the race scenes. Here's a place my friends and I made a few trips to "back in the day" www.connectinghighway.com/ If you check out the page you'll see the Ko-Motion Vette. Which has been reproduced in HO scale by Model Motoring(?). (delete the / on the end of the link)

I have lots of racing memories to look back on. I was on drag strips for 50 years with many different 1/1 cars, which continues now with HO size cars. The Beretta was by far the quickest and fastest with the red Camaro coming in second. Funny I get nervous playing pool but I was always calm behind the wheel of a drag car which could have did me in quickly. I have a video of the car sliding sideways at 100 when I hit the throttle again when a little out of the groove. Even then I kept my cool and did not even cross over the center line. Last time I was in Vegas playing pool I played many levels below normal because of nerves??? Makes no sense, just the way I am I guess.

Even in the movie I could tell the 55 was a mean machine by the sound and the way it moved. I have the Ko Motion Vette and it has made it to some of our races. It says AHRA record holder on the trunk. For some reason that link could not be found on my computer. Ko Motion Vette pix 1

I have to admit I do not have the Screaming yellow Banana made up in the same configuration as it was back then. I converted it back to a 1 ohm for the match races. I was surprised to see how quick those cars ran back then. I have been concentrating on the 2.5 Pro Mod for the upcoming race and just built a new BSRT chassis for the race that will go in the American Graffiti 55 Chevy.
