Here in Southern Illinois its 10 deg with a wind chill of -6 and its snowing like crazy. We have about 8 or 9inches so far and expect another couple before it subsides. I hope you all are save and warm. We are supposed to have sunshine tomorrow but not much relief in the temperature.

Here in the Pacific NW we're having a some what typical winter if not a little on the mild side. Dived into the single digits late last week and Monday got about 6" of snow, both pretty normal for mid February around here. Sending good vibes for those getting hit with the severe weather, takes the fun right out of it .

How are JJ and Eagle making out? My son is away at college in Mississippi, he told me he's experiencing intermittent Black outs. His mother loves in Houston, TX and they just got power back today.

Finally got power yesterday and water pipes starting to thaw out! I have been in a lot worse -60 degree when in the service, but we had artic gear and our military generators did not fail. As NASA says we have a problem HOUSTON! Our power grid operators dropped the ball.
Jeff got power same day thanks for asking. Hope everybody else is doing well.

Thanks a bunch for the update Robert! My heart goes out to you, Jeff, all your family, friends and those affected. What a catastrophic ordeal! Truly hope your journey back to normalcy goes smoothly!
Brings back a few bad memories when Jen, the kids and I lived up in the woods in a trailer in northern Idaho. Power outages were some what common during sub-zero temps, which dictated being prepared with wood stove, propane heaters and propane camp stoves. I can't imagine getting thru this without some kind of backup.

It certainly does pay to be prepared! Especially as politicians are fooling around with our energy capabilities. We used to use a kerosene heater for an emergency back up but now rely on a gas log fireplace.
Power outages due to ice storms typically occur at least once a year in this area. We bought a gas powered portable generator a few years ago to keep the fridge and freezer running. Oddly we have only had to use it once and that was for a summer storm. It’s comforting to know it’s there if needed. Any time we hear of bad weather coming we make sure there is plenty of gas on hand. It’s also a good idea to fill up all vehicles ahead of time. Gas pumps don’t run when power is off.
Glad to hear that Robert and Jeff have power restored!

Gas pumps don’t run when power is off. Glad to hear that Robert and Jeff have power restored! That's about the same here too. Typically one ice storm a year that comes and goes. We have had sustained single digit temperatures over a period of 4 days. The power suppliers were not prepared for that and the result for a lot of folks was no power for several days. I have seen single digits here before, but typically it will touch on it overnight and that's it. Over a 3 day period it stayed in the single digits for most of that time and got down to 2deg at one point. That is brutal. My saving grace was the infra red propane heater that I bought to be able to run proxy races in my garage in the winter. Nitroslots saved the day ....LOL!! I'm pretty resourceful but I will be better prepared in the future. There will be a generator outside before next winter. I just hope we are done with this stuff for the year. Thanks for the concern everyone!
