Revisiting this as its from 2014. Looking for current info.
I am torn between the Dragon Racing SD2 and SD3 (leaning towards the SD3). I like the bracket racing idea w/a bunch of uneven cars, seems like it would be more fun.
How hard was it to set up? (even Tyler said it can be problematic.
It talks about the 3 different modes, Sportsman Tree, Pro Tree and Bracket. Do any of these work like real tree light? Example, you have one car a 1/10 of a second slower will the light compensate, giving the slower car the green light first?
Do you like or wish you had done something different?
Asking a lot of question as for me (fixed income, Lol I know should have taken up knitting, cheap!) by the time it's delivered it will be close to $350 and don't want to be disappointed.
Again thanks in advance! Steve

I had the original Dragon system back about 7 years ago. It worked well but did not have bracket capabilities. The latest one does but I have no idea how well it works. Bracket racing can be fun if you are racing. For spectators it is boring. When I raced by Pro Mod back in the early 2000s we would pack the stands on heads up nights. Bracket nights only had the participants watching, maybe. The Track Mate systems includes bracket capabilities but it is much more expensive. There is a basic system that might have the ability and it costs less. I have only run one HO bracket race and it of course requires 2 drivers. I was able to recruit my son and we used a tree blinder, along with a Pro Tree .001 light so if there were any red lights you were guessing. Still when you hear the other car leave you are inclined to go. It took some practice but we pretty much eliminated red lights which if you ever watched bracket racing that is very rare. We were also able to keep our reactions pretty close to each other so the cars consistency usually got the win.

Like Dave said , bracket racing is a participant sport. But its biggest assett is it works well for the budget minded. My full scale adventures were stock and super stock which included both. As far as the SD3 is concerned, I was considering it before I went with DragRace Coordinator. After looking over all the specs, it appears to be a pretty good self contained system. If you own a laptop or have a spare computer, the DRC is really a good deal. The software can be down loaded free and there are several of us using it that can point you in the right direction for the hardware. I have less than 50$ in the hardware. DRC has the bracket race features, but I am a lone wolf here and most the kids my age have already passed on. Whatever you decide, there are plenty of guys here with differant systems that are always willing to lend a hand.

Steve, If you have a group (at least two people) bracket racing is a blast. I can’t vouch for the SD3 but DRC is truly a great value. Once you get it set up and understand the software… it’s a win win. Especially if you are on a fixed budget, you can get going with not that big of an investment. We have been using it for about a year and have been very happy with it.

Track Mate has gone up in price since I bought mine some years ago. 549 for the dp2000 and 1120 for the dp3000.

we use the sd2 here in our group, with 4 tracks running, and 11 classes each night the bracket racing while sound good would take to long to set up races, heads up racing we have found to be a blast, its quick and easy and the race master of the night only has to set the fields, call the races and record the winners.
