Rick, correct, it is NOT you I am referring to. thank you for contacting Bob and sharing what you know with him. it is someone else, whom I think some folks can intuit who it is, but I would rather not say. I too, am glad he has taken a chance making these even if they are not exactly what I spoke to him about 4 months ago. they are pricey and if he doesn't sell enough, he probably wont make another batch, so get them while you can. al

Feed back is good. He's just starting so if we want to ask if something can be changed now would be the time I think.
For me I'd personally like a smaller hole so I could use it on anything. Shoulder on the other side of the gear. I don't know how I feel about the set screw on the gear never tried one, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings not having it. I'll probably cut it off and put it on the other side anyway.
What ever the outcome at least we got something to work with.
Hopefully one of us will have one soon and will see how they fit.

Jeff, I have been campaigning to have that shoulder on the inside of the gear to fit the 4 gear chassis. someone else keeps whispering silly stuff to Bob and distracting him from what we really need. there is still hope though. Just to clear me of anyone thinking I was whispering silly stuff to Bob😁 I offered any dimensions he needed and I offered to send him one of each. Tjet and 4G crowns. He said he had it handled but thank you. So he go no input from me. Sounded like he had something already in the works ? I tried. Got to give Bob Credit for trying. And Al I know you know what I just explained😁 I can’t wait to try one. It’s a start. Rick I will take whatever I can get and be happy for it. You will hear no complaints from me. I appreciate the effort you and several others have given and Bob for providing these bad A$$ parts. Rick you have contributed recently by designing a very sweet gear of which I have a prototype. I can hardly wait to get the one I ordered. I personally would like to see a sharper tooth....less triangulated. It meshes better with the cluster and that's what we need when these things torque up at the hit. The Wizzard gears are like that. I also agree with the smaller hole.

I got the two crowns Bob sent me today. Quality wise they look really good. The teeth are like everyone thought but they mesh pretty good but I think would eventually round the teeth. They are definitely doable. For a reference I compared the teeth to the crown I have that Eric did years ago and they matched up perfect. This is what I sent to Bob. Bob I got the crown gears today. They look really good. I put it in a Tjet chassis with your aluminum top plate and it all looked to mesh pretty good. If you added a shoulder on the inside or tooth side around .030 or so, would give more area for the crown to bite on the axle. If you was planning on making one for the 4gear you could take that same crown and put the shoulder on the inside or the tooth side of the crown and either leave the outside or the backside of the crown flat or with a .020 shoulder would be perfect. My personal preference for the axle hole would be a press on fit. If you squeezed down the hole you have, it would give the builder the opinion of the press on or set screw or both ? Hope all of that was helpful ? Thank You for sending me the crowns to check out.
Anything anybody would like to add or change ?
Rick

Would putting the flange on the gear side complicate cutting the teeth?

Would putting the flange on the gear side complicate cutting the teeth? Bill good point. If you think about it I haven’t seen any brass crowns with that shoulder on the gear side ? That could be because the way the chassis are designed ? The plastic crowns like from RTHO and Wizard have it. I would think the CNC machines they use are similar? I don’t know. Seems to me the more area the crown has for the axle it will be more stable ? Haven’t heard back from Bob yet. Maybe he’ll have some answers ? Rick

Gear looks good but why 18T instead of 15? I think someone convinced him to reproduce the Auto World version? I don't know what the tooth count is on either, Aurora or Auto World 4 gear crowns, so I cannot honestly answer. I would have preferred 15 tooth, but we got something and now we have to work with it. just glad he did these in addition to the others.

Stock AW 4 gear crown is 18t and the AFX Specialty chassis is 15t.
