Plenty of good Youtube videos on this group if you can't make the show.

Went to the Gasser race at Knoxville's 1/8th mile drag strip. Quite a turnout, several thousand spectators and over 70 race cars including classes A/G, B/G, C/G and S/S. Cars were great, don't know the rules but the newest car I saw there was a 67 Camaro. For normally aspirated small cubic inch motors these cars were quick. Biggest motor there was a 477 in A/G. Some of the C/G cars were in the 280 inch range. Some very close heads up racing at times. As far as I could calculate with a hand timer, of the ones I timed, the C/G cars were running 5.8s to 7.5s, the B/G cars were 5.6 to 7.0s and the A/G were running 5.3 to 6.7s. This is flying with a N/A full bodied car. The part I extremely disliked was no times of any kind were announced or shown on the scoreboard, don't know why, but it really took a lot away from the event for me and my son felt the same way. That would stop me from ever going back again. Here are some photos from the event: Wheelie from other side, mostly you can only see heads Track All the trailers Spectators Wheelies 2 Starting line wheelies

Dave, Thanks for sharing the pictures! It had to be a flashback to the 60's being there.
They don't show times so that people stay to the final rounds. In other words you'd be pressed to calculate the winner without seeing the race. This is what they said in a video posted by the group.

Thanks for the info. It surely was a flashback to times of long ago when I actually ran in D/G, C/G and B/G with a 55 Chevy. I surely have lost races when I was the quicker car and I can't count how many times I broke something during qualifying or eliminations. Those overpowered cars on small tires surely do not go straight every run as I saw often and cars I had with more than twice the tire size also were always trying to swap the rear with the front. No times did not stop us from leaving before the finals anyway as we left after the third round. We might have stayed for the last couple of rounds if there were some times to look at. Some of the racing was very close and times would have added a lot of interest for me and my son. Last rounds usually get a lot of nothing going on as they allow the racers some cool down time. I remember packed stands during qualifying, when I raced, that dwindled down to a few diehards by the time the finals came around. We sometimes did not finish until 3 AM. It was nice to see those cars run that well with what they had. I imagine there was some high dollar equipment in those cars to run like that with no power adders, some of them seemed to be hitting about 10,000 rpms and I surely heard some floating valves.

I met a guy while I was at Ft. Benning Ga. named Mike Davis, he ran a '64 Polara convertible in b stock automatic. A buddy and me used to go to the drags with him alot. I think we went to one in Greenville SC. a cpl. times, memory is a little fuzzy it was back in '87 . He ran a 426 max wedge and I remember his car had an aluminum front end on it. Fella named Divorak outa Fla. used to build his engines. Good times back in them days fer sure.

If that is an original 64 with stock parts it's worth a lot now a days. My story about running one of those with a hemi in it is on this site somewhere.
