Well the ghost of Christmas past took me back to Christmas of 1968. I must have been a pretty good boy that year because Santa brought the Aurora race set that I had picked out from the Sears Christmas catalog. Remember them? A Hot Rod coupe and roadster we also on my list, which Santa also brought. That was the best Christmas present of all time. Or at least the one that had the most influence on my life. After all, I still play with them after all these years later.
Those cars have been MIA for years, like many of our childhood treasures. This year I decided to help Santa by buying myself a green Hot Rod roadster, just like the original, to complement the blue coupe scored a few years ago.

My favorite Christmas memory was around 1966 it was a 1/24 scale Eldon Top Eliminator Drag Race set complete with a working christmas tree and everything. I got a lot of cool things for Christmas's as a kid (mini bikes, go-carts) but this was my favorite. I went through three of these sets before my parents got tired of returning them for a new one after I wore them out. The last one they returned the story they gave me was they stopped making them and they got there money back and that was the end of that. I've been collecting pieces and parts over the years and almost have a full set. The full sets if you can find them is $500 and up. If I ever get the stuff I got restored they'll make a good display. Maybe even get to play with it too ? Here's a cool commercial....
