Got 10 packages of slot cars in postal purgatory right now. All 10 mailed the same day and picked up. According to tracking they all made it to the PO and left the same day. Don't see how all 10 could go missing like that. According to local postmaster, there are no other major issues with missing packages in that time frame. All have been MIA since Feb. 22. All unfortunately uninsured. Not sending any more uninsured packages!

Post office strikes again. It seems like some POs are a lot worse than others. Seems like some are useless and some are good.

Bill, use the online "search" procedure for each package. many times I had packages in "limbo" for weeks and when I did the Search procedure they miraculously showed up the next business day delivered. many employees will try to side step issues, but the computer pretty much has to send out the forms for the various Post Masters to send answers for. I insure everything over $50.00 especially if using 1st class. Priority automatically insures up to $50.00 but costs about twice 1st class. unfortunately, even the USPS has become a gamble. hope your packages turn up undamaged.

But you may need to nudge them along. I also agree with Al in that I don't send anything with less than $50. First Class allows insurance now but they didn't always do that. Custom painted bodies and slot cars always go Priority with insurance. It seems like when there is insurance they seem to keep up with them better.....go figure.

Did the USPS help request form and missing mail search request form on usps site, So far getting silly responses. For example, one request was forwarded to PA, the package's destination, when according to tracking they never left SC.
The 1st class/priority is a catch 22. On ebay priority rates have a negative impact on sales. 1st class boosts sales but has risk. There is no way to require insurance with 1st class, so I started adding a handling fee to cover insurance. We'll see if it hurts sales. Not shipping any more without insurance.

Bill, I put a simple mailing rate on packages that reflect what I think they will cost to ship including insurance. most of the time I am right, occasionally I am wrong and it costs me a little more. I don't use the calculator thingy. I just put a flat rate for each item. some items that I know will fetch good money, I start at a price that I am happy with that will include shipping plus insurance and list it as "FREE SHIPPING". the higher the price, the higher the insurance cost, but not so much that it will hurt my profit margin. there is no magic wand that will always give us the best value for shipping and other costs. I am wondering if it is legal for eBay to include shipping costs and taxes in the fees they charge us?

I’ve often wondered about the legality of their practices too. eBay is the only organization that I know of that charges sales tax on shipping. Wonder if the states actually get those tax revenues.

My heart goes out to you, Bill.
I hope and pray they all show up sooner than later.
A guy at the ticket counter for an airline asked if he could book a ticket for Florida, and have his bags sent to Ohio? The person at the counter said "That's not possible sir". The man said "Well, you did that the last time I flew with you!"
