gotta love a Willys!!!! love it. consider that many Hot Rods, before they get their high gloss paint jobs have had to have a fender/quarter panel/door/hood replaced off a different color car. you could then "weather" patina the whole car. just a thought.

I'll go with done for now, but that is screaming for a decal all hacked up on the side. that is exactly what I was thinking.

I don't know if you've seen the rebel reaper gasser but I was thinking of doing one like that I'm just not sure if I have the patience for all the color changes and masking.

Thank you all. On the luv I used salt to create the effect. All you do is paint a base color and then put a little water from a cotton swab on the area you want the rust/patina and sprinkle a little salt on it. I found that you get better results if you put a little more water on the salt after its in place. I then painted over the truck in white and after that dried I used a tooth pick to remove some of the salt and then painted the yellow. After that dried I used the tooth pick to remove the rest of the salt and then wet sanded the areas going in small circles. Unbelievable way to achieve the effect on the truck! Very cool for sure! Did you use that technique on the Willy or some other way? If I may ask....what is your paint setup? Rattle can...air brush...? Your painting is very clean thanks for sharing.

I did use the same method on the willys as I did the luv. With the willys body being smaller the salt covered more area so more of the paint ended up with the weathered look. I am using a airbrush with wicked colors mostly. I'd like to try some other paints outside of the water based stuff.

pennywize, finger nail polish has a broad variety of colors and not too expensive. shop the dollar stores and look for sales at other stores. thin it down with lacquer thinner. bottles are small, but by the time you thin it enough to spray, you don't have to use much of the paint in the bottle. on occasion, I have bought large lots on eBay. many of the colors are not what I would call "usable" but the price for a whole lot make the ones that I keep cheap! www.ebay.com/itm/275355405544.

I use lacquer paint exclusively anymore with some enamels and acrylics for the brush detail. Much harsher than the water based, but I'm really happy with the results. I use lacquer nail polishes due to the wide range of colors and sheens available. I only recommend the better ones though...OPI...China Glaze...Santee...etc. and note that not all polishes are lacquer based. FYI.

Very impressive work.paint is a struggle for me . You struggle with it very well Jeff....your cars are some of the best if not the best customs at my races. But I think I know what you mean. I struggle with every one of mine. A lot of times the design changes because of my mistakes...lol.
