I have been lucky enough to get a couple of early t-jet chassis from eBay U.K. they are the closed rivet type. They both run but all the copper contacts are very dull. Is there an easy way of cleaning them up? I have heard that dipping them in Cola works . It is rare for them to turn up over here and they were cheaper than buying the Autoworld version.

White Vinegar will take all the nonsense off the copper and leave them nice and shiny. there are specific solutions made for cleaning copper, but I think the main ingredient is vinegar. then scrub the whole chassis with dish washing liquid using a soft, used tooth brush. please take the time to disassemble those chassis and give them a good cleaning like I suggest. check that the axle holes haven't become enlarged, if they have there are simple ways to "peen" them back to original size. you will be much happier with them once you have cleaned them completely and reassembled. let us know how they come out. maybe before and after pics too?

For a while there, Dash was selling the rivets and the copper parts. Maybe he'll put them in stock again. Nice to have if the stock parts are bent or broken. Wizzard was offering them too, but only recall seeing open rivets.
BTW nice score on the close rivets Tjet chassis'!

I have just tried the vinegar on a spare pick-up blade which came with the cars and it worked perfectly . I appreciate the help. I will post a couple of photos tomorrow. The strange thing is the guy who sold them had them listed as Atlas. There was in fact one atlas Corvette but the other two are an Aurora t-jet Cobra and Jaguar E type. Both have cut arches but the chassis both run .

hese are the three cars that I have just purchased. As you can see the Cobra & Jaguar have cut arches but the chassis both run. The Atlas Corvette also runs and is in good condition although I think that it has the wrong guide blade. I will sstrip the chassis for cleaning in a couple of days and post photos of the results.

My humble apologies. This is a bit late... Vinegar and salt solution with a tooth brush does wonders. Here's the before and after pics.

if you want to get real serious, "sonic" cleaners for jewelry can get tiny stuff out from between the plates and other nooks and crannies. you still want to use a solution that helps "lift" the scum away. and of course a good fresh water rinse.

These work very well! Amazon has them for about $25. Well worth the investment.

The Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner I have turned the red windings on an AFX arm pink. Probably best to leave the arms out.

Bill, yes, remove everything that can be from the chassis. only sonic clean the chassis tub, the top plate and top plate clamp. gears may be sonic cleaned too, so cluster may remain.

i have just cleaned the first chassis using the white vinegar and it works perfectly. I will now tackle the closed rivet chassis that I got. I will also invest in an ultra sonic cleaner. Thanks for the tips..
