I am considering hosting a race late in January 2023. I have asked Ken about what two classes he would be most interested in racing. I open it up to everyone to pick two (2) classes they would most like to race in if I hold an event.
understand I am not trying to step on JJ's toes by doing this now. all of our attention should be focused on getting our cars ready for his race.
considering we have a couple newer members that might not have posted up too much, I invite them to ask about the classes here and then maybe they will want to tell us what their choices would be.
established racers, please, let me know what classes might be the most attractive.
I recognize my own limitations and I will not attempt the list racing nor will I race more than two (2) classes. I will accept challenges BEFORE race day.
I figure if we get some answers soon I can try to schedule a race that won't interfere with usual scheduled races.
please let me know your choices.
also, this is a good place to discuss the different ideas folks have and get some fresh outlooks for our group going forward.

I'm glad to hear you will be running a race Al. We are going to need a Racemaster meeting soon probably to figure out next year's schedule. I'm in to kick off new years at your place.
As far as classes with us having 4 or more new members... I was thinking of us Racemasters getting together and pick a class (stock/super stock) and chassis (probably pancake over inline)and possibly have us all run that one class and chassis at our events. This would give them a chance to tune and run at least one car all year. I know we have list but this is just different. Maybe run with the ss tjet after JJ race for next year or run with 4gear stock. Give them time to catch up on those. The second choice should just be your favorite thing to see is my opinion.
I'm not sure what all we have planned to finish this year out but I'm tossing around the idea of a Christmas drag race gift exchange. It would be in December and it would most likely be just the race exchange no other classes. So if you had a January race that shouldn't have any conflict with build time. I'll get with JJ and post up later this week about it. As you said our main focus right now should be JJs race , but its always good to have a heads up.

My choice would be pancake stock and super stock. In the rules the only difference between the class's are braids and shunts. New members will be able to purchase chassis at a reasonable cost and be competitive on an even playing field.

I also think that pancake stock and super stock would be good as we all have them and tuning is easy and inexpensive for the newbie’s. It is a level playing field and they would get an idea about tuning. There are so many people on here to give advice on the best way to go. The Christmas gift exchange idea is also thing to think about.

Always been fond of the Gasser class. Not far removed from stock and SS. With the TFX 5.5 ohm motors readily available at a reasonable price, it will not be a burden for rookies.
Definitely prefer pancakes over online.
Index class might be worth considering.

The AFX/Xtraction classes may not be a good choice. The AW chassis' gear plates are a major PITA to install. The armature shaft seems to pop out the rear brushes more often than not.
Oddly their 4Gears don't seem to have the same issue.

Pancake Stock and Super Stock are always a beginner and racer favorite. Both are easy on the budget as well. Comp is only a slight uptick from SS with the addition of a mean green armature at $6-$7. Still affordable. We put a lot of focus on the Beginner/Rookie Classes a few years back, even running some Classes separately as Veterans (previous winners) and Rookies (no previous wins). My suggestion is to find a happy medium between Classes that will please both Rookies and Veterans. Running the Stock Classes all the time starts to get a little boring after awhile. That also gives an opportunity for the Rookies that aspire to build something faster to do just that. IMHO.....

The wedges at the front of the gear plate seem to be a better design on the 4Gear as well.
