Hey I have been looking at this board for a few days . I raced roadcourses in th mid 90's but left the hobby at about the time of the start of the " manufactuer war " , we'll just say I left for personal reasons . I recently decided to try to get back in but I have discoverd it's not the hobby i once enjoyed . I have a 4x16 roadcourse in my garage . In the past I raced magnet cars (tyco SS , RO) ,now it seems that most racing is done with non-magnet cars (t-jet , magna-traction) . The idea of drag racin is very cool . My question would be are the car types limited to t-jets . I Have a few t-jets and magna-traction care (2 magna's actually have drag bodies pinto and cuda bodies ) or can I use my tyco's . Is car type dependent on the place that you race . I have tons of tyco stuff so I would rather not have to completely retool all my stuff .

Hey shooter, in St Louis we race Road & Oval every week, we limit the chassis to T Jet but would be glad to see you at the races. Where are you located. Da Dog

There are members here who road race as well, and drag inline chassie'd cars as well as the T jets. Ntra races T jey style cars at present, but the popularity and availibility of the in-line type chassis almost dictates that NTRA in-line classes will eventually appear. This is just my opinion not as NTRA position statement ! lol
Also, a likely development would be the use of a given chassis desgin in more than one class.

Hey guys . Thanks for the replies . Kdogs , it would be cool to to race with ya but I live in central PA .
John , thats cool . I just found 3 t-jet dragsters that i had hiding in a box at my dads house . So to say maybe in the futer a SS road race car could become a SS drag car , or an RO to become some kind of pro mod car . Would that be the right thinking . Thanks again guys shooter p.s. can i post pics on this site ?

Welcome to the site Shooter. A few of us here at PSD Dragway are like you. We road raced in the eighties up until the early nineties, got tired of all the politics that came with the big three mfg's and started 1/24 scale Drag Racing. About a year and a half ago we decided to build a HO dragstrip. We have a bunch of old R.O., Super Stocks, Modifieds and some unlimiteds from back then. Just about all my cars from those years are bracket racers now. We do race both tjet and inline cars. Feel free to post pictures.

Thank SKR you'r right about the politics , it will kill the hoddy ( in my opinion) . I would'nt mind getting my t-gets and magna-tractions to run so i could drag race them , but really like the speed of the inline cars . Im thinking of building a strip in my garage even if I only play with myself (did I just say that , lol ) . If I convert my raod cars to drag cars what classes would they run in (SS road car = ? drag car , RO road car = ? drag car ) is there any kind of standerd or is it more up to the group or club ? as yet we at NTRA havent run a dragster class. But many of the guys do I am sure. Every 'local' body tends to have their own rules. Some are adopting NTRA for their local 'show', but there certainly is no requirement that any follow our 'standard.' Read through all the areas of the board and I think you will ghet a pretty good handle on who we are and what makes us tick. There is room here for every body.
We are a bunch of racers, promoting racing in general, truly putting what we feel is 'the good of the sport" first, and our egos last.

Shooter, Welcome to the board!! Looks like you have some great old afx 4 gears there! If you go through the board you will find some great tune up tips to help you get em running like they should, although most of our tune up stuff is more for the old tjet style much of it can be adapted to the afx chassis you have. Right now we have 2 classes of cars for dragracing in NTRA "Gassers" and "Super Stock" both nostalgia based. We are a bunch of old farts and like the old style cars. More classes in the works at this time, so bear with us. Inline cars.. ?? Not really in the works for NTRA, but there are other groups that do run them, I think in time you will find an abundant amount of info her on Psychoslots. Sam might be able to give you some tips on em. I have run tyco 440x2 based drag cars in the past and wound up with more Cubic Dollars wrapped up in them than I really felt comfortable with. But that does not mean you can't enjoy em if that is your choice, If you enjoy it then go with it!! If there is anything any of us can do to make "slothead" experience better, Just ask, Pm's , email, heck I'll even call you if you need my help. Again, Welcome To the board!! Chris

Shooter, my advice would be to get a track up and start by Bracket racing. You can race anything in this class. Once you get a few guys racing with you, ask them what they'd like to run as far as heads up classes. Take a look at some of the sanctions out there to see if you guys would like to run what they do, adopt their rules or just come up with your own. Just have fun with it. Good to see another track possibly going up.

Yea kdogs they day there is good fishing here but I'm not much into it . If yea float down the Breeches you just might go by my place when ya hit the Susquhana .
SKR That is along the lines of my thinking . All my roadracein buddies have all faded away . It's pretty much just me , which is why I was looking to see what people were runnin . I saw there was some people some what near me . I think they run all neo stuff . What I'd really like to do is get some cool bodies like I have seen here and try to adapt them to my RO tycos and run them . I like to go fast . lol . Thanks again for all the info guys shooter

Hey Shooter, I'm in the same boat as you. So far, I haven't found anyone near me that races. I am building my own strip so that I can have somewhere to run. Hopefully I can find a few more people, but if not, at least I'll have somwhere to test my stuff for all the 'mail in' races Actually, the way I'm building my track, I should be able to stay well under a hundred bucks! 'Course that doesn't include the timing system. I am using 'modified' plastic track (2 track sections, side by side, eliminated the inside lanes so the track is wider), I picked up enough track sections to do 13 feet of track for 25 bux plus shipping (doing a scale eighth mile, probably HO scale, just over 7 feet of 'timed' track and the rest shutdown). Just gotta build the wood 'framework' now, and wire it. I already own an older 486 puter, so I saved a little on that (need it for the timing system). I got two Wall Warts (transformers..lol) for 5 bux each..pretty sweet deal, at least I thought so ;D!! I'm even gonna make it 'portable' since I have to use it on my patio. It doesn't rain here much, but when it does, it floods!! As soon as I can get the framework built, I'll be sure to get some pics. Ron (Bondo)

hey shooter.................this is an answer to an earlier question...i hope its still timely>
Pretty much right on target.. As an example, earlier this year we had a "GASSER NATIONALS" The same chassis that is legal for that class is more than just possibly likely to be useable under a different 'class' in an upcoming event. We plan to have more than one set of interchangeable classes, to afford maximum use of your investment In addition, new classes will appear slowly, If a racer would follow us through the classes he would slowly develop skills to be build a wide variety and levels of Hot Rods. In addition, we will often if not ALWAYS include Stock or Superstock cars at every National Event from here on out. The entry level guy, the brand new racer, and the guy who wants a small investment and High Fun quotient will never be forgotten. We have no personal prejudice against the in-line cars per se. They can be just as fun and are FAST! We aren't ruling anything OUT, other than judiciously and stubbornly sticking to lower cost classes for the bulk of our 'program,' for the foreseeable future.
