Here’s a head scratcher for ya: Why is it that I struggle to get a stock class TJet style chassis to make passes under 1sec., but have some stock Xtractions that run in the .7s? A lot of us even have 4Gears that run under 1sec.
We are running pretty much the same arms, magnets, gears, brushes, wheels and tires, in both types of chassis. The only advantages (if you can call them that) the AFX style chassis has over the TJet is the cluster gear and a lower center of gravity.
The real irony of it is that when it comes to the 5.5 to 6ohm cars, some of my TJets outrun the AFXs.

Any foam tyco I've got are hard as a brick or it is in disintegration mode Back when we raced with foam tires, we used some sort of pine tar like goop as a fraction compound. Still have a BSRT bottle of it.

Jags package scheduled for delivery today. There is light at the end of the tunnel! Was beginning to think the light was a train! Couldn’t find one my chassis! Looked all over but no luck. Got fed up and did other things for a while. Then it occurred to me while walking the dog, I had put it in the ultrasonic cleaner, a night or 2 ago. And here I was wondering if maybe the dog ate it. Paint problems are running amok. Had to put one of mine in the strip tank yesterday. Repainted today. Will have to use a quick dry clear.

Glad to have you guys. I'm getting very antsy and can't wait to see these cars fly down the track. This is my first proxy race of any sort. I'm just hoping my junk makes it down the track. If it flies? I'll be ecstatic. Hard to know what to expect at your first event. Wish you a healthy dose of beginners luck. Have fun with it!

Got the pancakes pretty well sorted out, so on to the DR1s. Found I didn’t have any bearings to do the builds.😳 Put in a quick order with Jag. Not sure if they will get here in time. Looked at stealing some from some other cars. Mega G looks like a match. Old school G+ might work but is a different design. Outer flanges are square.
Ahh, the joys of procrastination!

Sometimes braids will slow your car down. Primary if there is too much solder or solder is in the contact patch of the rails.
DR1s are also bad for not making a good electrical connection, where the shoes contact the brush barrels. Installing the braid may be causing the shoe to be lifting off of the brush barrel. This is the Achilles heal of the DR1, and may be the cause of your car’s hesitation out of the box.
Make sure your barrel and shoe contact surfaces are clean and you may have to reshape the shoes a little to ensure good contact. If the electrical connection is not good, there may have been some sparking, which will lead to carbon buildup. That will compound the problem.
Adding shuts is a good way to eliminate that problem.

Wish Radio Shack was still around too. Found Digi-Key to be a good online resource. Electrolytics are polarity sensitive. Will go off like a firecracker if hooked up in reverse. I have been using Digikey for years and they are great! Components are plentiful and cheap. They have EVERYTHING! I started out with a SD System and had all kinds of sensor issues. I sold it and went with a Trackmate Basic and then to a Trackmate DP300HO which I have not had any issues with either. But I have always wondered if the SD photoeye sensors could be replaced with IR sensors and lighting with more red spectrum used if that would work. It always seemed like the photoeyes were picking up light from all over whereas the IR sensors are looking for light with red spectrum. I literally have had zero issues with the IR sensors. Any thoughts on that Bill? If I still had my SD System I would have tried that as an experiment. I have all of the IR sensor numbers from Digikey if someone wanted to try it. It would be well worth it if it works. I’d be game to try IR Sensors. At the moment only one lane is reliable on my SD system. One sensor has been erratic.

Nah, you got to run them for a while so that cat hair can build up in all of the axles and shafts. Its the secret speed sauce. Well, if cat hair is the secret sauce, then I should be in great shape. What about 18-24 inch long wife and/or daughter hair? They should take flight with a few of those in the mix. Maybe I need to get a cat

Just happened to send a stock Tyco down the track earlier today and it ran .742, so that's the guess.

Thanks, guys. I am currently using Duplicolor spray cans to get GM original colors. Looking forward to moving to an airbrush sometime this year. You’ll be pleased when you do! No expert but will be happy to help when you take the leap. Sure others will too. Learned by trial and error. Didn’t find an instructional videos till a couple of years later. Had to unlearn some bad habits. Most useful part was how to clean the guns properly.
