I am getting ready to build my 3rd and final drag track. The objective is to build a premium facility to host 12-15 premier proxy races per year including our own 4 gear series, bracket series and potentially host some NTRA races.
My current Maxx Track is 15.3' timed with 4' of shut down. I love the track and it has served us well over the last 3 years, but I am wanting to build something on the next level that will elevate my involvement within the hobby. I want to use forward thinking to insure that the track will continue to meet the demands of the hobby as it continues to grow as well as be able to accomodate any and all types of events as well as car orientation.
I personally believe that at this time the 4 gear is on its way to becoming the chassis of choice simply due to mainstream availability of the AutoWorld sets. While they may or may not be the fastest, I know that there are more reliable gear sets and gears that are in the works to be released in the next 6 months that will aid in bullet proofing the drivetrain. Once the weak link has been fixed I believe that all have opportunities to be very successful moving forward. That being said the 4 gear is the closest to a 1:64 scale which would equate to a 20.625' timed 1/4 mile drag strip.
My plan has been to build a 1:64 scale strip with timing at the 1000' and 1320' (1:64 scale of course) to best replicate 1:1 racing as well as meet the demands as speed increases and shut down areas shorten. I am working with space just shy of 30 feet so I can make it happen, but wanted others opinions regarding lenths they prefer as well as where they feel the future in scale sizing is headed.
I am open to any and all opinions and please understand that there are no right or wrong opinions on this.
thanks in advance.
