Actually I think Derwood's outlaw 0 ohm armature overloaded the power supply and sent a power spike into the computer. ;D ;D ;D The NOS bottle was just a cover up story.

As some of you know, WDWAHO Raceway is just over two years old and runs by invitation only races once a month. These races are for inline cars and we have experienced glitches with pancake cars and especially tjets since the track was built. Over the last year many changes have been made to eliminate the glitch and about two months ago we came up with a cure for the problem with the addition of capators to the shut down area and the elimination of our trick return road capabilities. We held our monthly race last Monday night with pancake cars in the mix for the evening and had a great race. We have changed nothing since last Monday nights race and now are experiencing some difficulty with some of the cars. Some produce ET's that are logical and some are causing the clocks to shut off when the trigger is pulled. Since we are having problems with some cars but not all we are running them one car at a time to make sure we are getting accurate and correct times. This will take us a little longer to get all posted. Some of the cars may not get a time if we cannot get them to run without stopping the clocks immediately at the hit. Obviously, I am not happy with what's happening but want to make sure you know the truth. John, Im probably not the first guy you want to hear from but I have a probable solution... Im not an electrical engineer by trade but I play one on TV... ;D You are using Infrared Sensors???...The way I read it, you have zero issues with inlines... That being said, Tjets, especially stockers like these are VERY electrically NOISY and are probably sending RF voltage down the line. Just enough so that the Infrared receivers are registering the voltage change and sending the "immediate difference" to the card which calls it a "switch" change and times that change. To prove my theory, run an inline and you should get VERY consistent times across all the sensors... SO THE CURE YOU SAY....... Put a lamp or "I use my Dewalt 18v Flashlight at the sensors and there are ZERO Tjet issues. You could also use a common household lamp over the track... That will provide more "IR stability. Remember flourescents do NOT give off any IR so you must use incandescent. Since it was such a small issue to me and we run tjets competitively here rarely at my track, I didn't think about telling the TrakMate folks as Im sure they are aware of it... (Maybe not) but if you try putting a good lamp right over the sensors then run the Tjets, you should get reliable times... If you are using anything besides the IR sensors, then disregard the entire post except the TV part.. ;D If using magnets, you would have to bore out the hole the sensor is in to get it closer to the top of the track surface and then ensure they are the REALLY small ones.. the intermediate ones dont often pickup tJets but is sporadic... I have part numbers for the right ones if you feel you might not have the correct mag switches.. Hope this helps... Dan

Perhaps this will be helpful to Phil. I am sure I'll find my OWN GLITCHES when i build mine up!!!
Seriously I have played with electronics and audio almost my whole life, and with live sound reinforcement, so. I know exactly how frustrating troubleshooting can be. I also know how frustrated and disappointed Phil is right now. I am sure nothing is insurmountable and well get the out come we all hope for.
To add joy to the process.........it seems he has an intermittent glitch. These are always the most fun to track down!

Amen to intermittents.... they really let you know there is a God somewhere...because while you are working on them, you have to resist the temptation of calling them horrible words starting with God...
Best of Luck with it... I just finished working out the bugs in my track during the build process... How do you think I found out that little issue? ;D ;D

I'm with shipsgunner on this one. I have 60w lamps over my sensors and I have never had a problem regardless of what type of cars I have run. Here is a pic of my setup. Good luck Matt

Greatly appreciate all the comments and suggestions. Swamper has a good one we are looking at tonight also. In my desire to make a "life-like" looking track, I put "under kitchen cabinet" lights in special boxes over the track that we can put cars, paper and pens on when we race and it's all out of the way. I will try different lighting tonight along with Swampers change and see if any of that works. If it does it will be easy to switch the lights back on to see if the problem comes back and that will show me which is the problem. If neither cure the issue, I must have some bad wiring somewhere under the track and it will take some major reworking to get it eliminated. "Major" being because of the built in nature of the track mounted on 6 kitchen cabinet bases and that means crawling into each one to rework it. Not a big deal, just time consuming and @#$^ irritating. Like you guys have so nicely stated, "it's still just a toy car hobby" and while I WILL fix this thing, but it's not going to get my blood pressure up or anything like that. After all, I've been married 40 years this summer and my blood pressures not high from that. It's all good. (Demon and Richard... you will NOT tell my wife that and no Demon, I can't out red-light you. ) Thanks guys.

You told me it was a 16.0 ohm armature when you sold it to me.

Phil, please only allow Demon to pull the triggers. I think I speak for everyone here when I say DO NOT TOUCH MY CARS DEMON! J/K ;D Hey while we are waiting for the timing issues to be resolved. How about doing a fire burn out with one of your cars and posting pictures? at least bring out the Jet cars or Joey Chitwood

Demon Me and GTX440 have nothing to worry about, besides you can't tear down what you can't catch.
