Newbie question here: How are you guys adding front end weight?
After the Springnationals test 'n' tune, it's obvious that my road racing setup was a disaster on the drag strip. So now I've got some work to do, and I'm wondering with the preferred method of adding front end weight is.
Are we talking lead shot and Silly Putty, brass strips and super glue, or bricks taped on the hood? How much weight is typical for a S/S -- 1 gram, 10 grams, two pounds?
Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks in advance for any info, Rick V.

I,m adding weight for the first time as my test and tune, and a you tube video showing stock HO t-500s leaving the line and every one almost hop out of the slot about three times as they lost electrical contact - regained it ,jumped again ,until were rolling enough to get steady, not far maybe for 8 inches or a foot, but enough to make me think thats hundreds of a second lost. I went to the Hobby shop where they sell model airplanes, they had thin lead sheets with sticky tape on the back(my planes never saw the stuff, they went into the ground fast enough) I used scissors cut it into strips that would clear the front axle, cleaned the area with alcohol and stuck it down.

Good tip Dave I was wondering where to get that stuff. I used the thick Plumbers solder cut into small sections, It fits in front of the post on some cars and in the front of the chassis, in front or behind the axel (depending on the wheel base you are using. I get the thin double side tape to hold it in place.

Thanks in advance for any info, Rick V. Rick, You just need to add enough weight to keep the front end from bouncing. More than that and you are just hauling extra weight. I started by sticking lead on the hood with tape. I added lead until I got a clean launch. Then I glued the lead where it wouldn't be easily seen. I'm not sure how much lead I used but both of my cars weigh over 25 grams. You really don't need a full drag strip to figure out how much lead that you need. If you have 3'-4' of plastic sectional track and a 13.8v power source your good. Just start with 2.5 grams and give it a try. If it still hops, give it a little more. The lead that I use is from my 1/32 scale days. It comes in strips that are segmented into 2.5g sections.

I think I mite have added toooooo much, I just watched my wifes niece's kid put my car on a sloped hot wheels track and it went faster than it did at the track stronger magnets might help but the hot wheels keep slamming into it. those kids put new meaning to test and tune.

SS INFO make sure your front tire's are not to tall so your shoe's will make good contact on the rail's. Some car's at the test and tune had tall front tire's and the shoe's were not making good contact.

Many thanks for the information on front end weight and other drag strip tuning tips. Yikes, 25 grams! My car came across the scale at 19.9 . . .
I figured the less mass to accelerate, the quicker the e.t. I figured skinny, short tires would lower the overall gear ratio and reduce rotating inertia. I theorized that restricted travel on shoes would work like traction control to limit wheelstands, and low spring pressure would reduce friction on the rails. After seeing the test and tune times, it looks like I was wrong on all counts! I guess that's why they don't road race Pro Stocks, and they don't run Funny Cars on road courses.
Well, back when I was racing 1:1 cars, we had a sign on the garage wall:"If the results disagree with the theory, believe the results and invent a new theory." Looks like it's time for several new theories in my workshop.
Cheers, Rick V.

Although I'm not part of this race I do have an 1/8 mile track and all those pointers have been great.
I do have a question. I am looking for recommendations for brushes?
This doesn't seem to be discussed much but is very important.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I like the Wizzard copper colored ones the best, you can get them from almost anyone selling HO supplys I got my last batch from Jag. Your right one of the easyest and best upgrades you can do. Thunderbrushes are a close second.

Number 1 in the SS Test N Tune was the 68 Hemi Barracuda of 440GTX Sorry, but you guys will have to bear with me on the posting of pictures part. For some reason I can't enlarge this one and I can't shrink the John B's cars. Put a rookie stripe on my camera I guess.
