I'll say let's use the gasser chassis as is. They are low cost to build most of us have got them and they put on a great show.

Altereds sounds like a blast to me. I'm kind of leaning towards Demon's idea for now, maybe just for this year only, see how it works out and then get suggestions at years end for improvements. Just a thought. The upside of this is that if you already have a Gasser, you can use the same chassis.

Ok, gang here it is: post up your ideas... No smak,, No flames, No arguments. all we are looking for is input.. Chris I dont mind either way, but I can never compete with some of the artistic talent you all seem to have with these little critters, therefore I would like a SINGLE class where the competition is actually racing and not looks... Especially since I have seen the Altereds... They are FUGLY ;D ;D. I dont have any of the cars so I would have to buy whatever I race anyway...I hate to think Im the only one in this predicament. So many of us wont be able to recycle some other class. At least allow the blue drag arms. They are higher OHMs than the mean greens anyway... I checked 3 "never run blues" and 10 "never run greens" and all the greens are in the 6.0-6.8 range.. the blues were all mid 7's. But at least they bear the name "DRAG MOTOR" You guys amaze me with some of the paint jobs and details that go into your cars... Im a tinkerer at heart and not a modeler. I can fidget with a set of gears for a week and then throw them away and start over completely and not be broken hearted... it's all about the build. The fruits of the labor for me are in building it.. not racing it so truly it makes no difference to me. Growing up I never got to go see the drags (Though my big brother took me to the Dirt Track Races once as a kid and I had a blast "thanks Chris, I still remember Sunset Speedway... You let me have my first beer in public at 17... That was the day I became a delinquent...LOL " ) I only saw a handful of them on TV so It's not something Im Real familiar with so I only have you all for reference and the internet. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a gasser or altereds class... this is all news to me... but if they were screamers, I suspect performance was WAY more important than looks... IMHO. I will race whatever the class requires but isn't anyone looking for a REAL RACE in a class besides a Gasser with a shell change?? Shoes - Whatever mfr fits, braids, shunts custom springs etc.... Tires any BLACK ones... (should make Nightrider happy...LOL long story) Only FACTORY Mean Green or Blue Drag arms... Trued and Balanced only... No dewind Ohms must be over 5.9 on any give lobe. Coms can be surfaced/trued only. Any Gears from any manufacturer (must be available regularly for sale on the Internet and ALL gears must be brass except the axle gear. Any Axle material Bodies must be true to the Typical Altered class such as Willys. Any brushes designed and sold for tjets, no cups or springs these are just ideas... but I like them so far... Oh wait.. they are mine, well some of them.. the rest are from the voices...lol Actually, Ragu's idea is pretty good... Gasser with a hotter motor and maybe a set of magnets... who knows... If we only change chassis to a different body then shouldn't it be called a "Modeler's Class" vice a drag class?

Just a heads up. Present Gasser rules allow all AUrora Production arms except the Quad Lam. Mean Green is merely the lower imperdance limit. Blue Drags, Jl Stock, Wild Ones TUff ones etc. are all Gasser legal.

Dan, I like your rules... They are the Gasser rules with the exception of the gears . If we go with a blue armature, where can we get them and are they reasonably priced? I've seen a few on ebay that went for more than I'm willing to spend on them. I can buy a american line mean green for $5 and have a better performing armature. If Blue armatures are decided just because they bear the name "Drag Motor" then I'd have to say...Uh, did we really just pick a armature for it's name? Alright so I'm being sarcastic. Part of the reason we started the NTRA group is to have affordable fun and share a trip down memory lane. We've used the Gasser chassis in the past for BB/FC just to change things up a bit. I don't really care what rules are decided upon. If you want to call it a modelers class, I say great! I would really like to see all builders/modelers capture the true art of some of these older beauties that are considered some of the wildest rides ever at the strip. Keep the ideas coming. Coming up with class rules seem easy enough but I can tell you that when me, John, Chris, Kevin and Phil hash out the details for rules, it's probably best that we all live in different states sometimes ;D, Heck Chris use to have a full head of hair before we started the NTRA J/K. I would like to see what you all think about of what a Altered class should be. Maybe after we get some ideas we can start with one part of the car such as a Armature and all decide on one that we all can agree on then go to the next thing such as gears.

Just a quick note: Blue Drag arms are quite legal in gasser class. The mean Green is the minimum impedance arm permitted., Any Production T jet type arm with the exception of the Quad lam is permitted in Gasser. Last year I built one of each.......a mean green car and a blue arm car. The rules Gunner suggested differ from the present Gasser rules only in permitting lightweight or cnc gears..( about a 39 dollar hit if you are so inclined-not complaining, just advising.

I like it,want to try building a Gasser out of one of my Ratts anyhow and if I can use the same running gear with just a tire change, and useing cnc gears or exchangeing the plastic for brass makes sence as more power means more stress on the gears.

My JL/AW based gasser with plastic gears is faster than my Aurora based gasser with brass gears. I tried putting brass gears on a JL gear plate and it slowed down. My funny car is also a JL chassis with a mean green arm. With that being said, I wouldn't want a brass only gear rule.
If you want to add a little excitement to the altereds, make slip on silicone tires mandatory and allow only 1 traction mag. The real altereds never could find enough traction.
I still like the idea of an arm that is a little hotter than the Mean Green.

A few of the things we need to keep in mind is that the custom armatures will cost around $25 and that they are not mass produced so the waiting time on them can be upwards of a month depending on what time of the year it is. Here is Galinko's selection of custom armatures: agg.fsmra.com/aggstore/index.php?cPath=21&osCsid=29395e7fe819dd7b6f506ce81083c32dDC Motors Armatures: www.geocities.com/dc_ho_motors/currentproducts.htmlTraction Magnets: Although running one would probably be more realistic as far as watching these things try to get down the track which would probably be great for local races but I imagine it could be a Nightmare for any proxy event race director and frustrating for the builders if they find out their car will not cross the finish line. Another suggestion for building this class is to have A/Altered and AA/Altered with one of the classes being a low budget build with the recycled Gasser chassis and slip on silicone rear tires and the other class being able to use a Hotter Armature, Silicone Foam tires, Any gears etc..... We could still hold a event just for Altereds and offer both of these classes for guys to run one or both. That might satisfy the builders of our group and the guys that just want to build a low budget racer to compete.

Remember when we are on the site "watching the race" all we get are the numbers... the only folks blessed by the view are the ones who cannot enter their cars anyway...LOL I like hotter arms idea... Single traction magnet and slipons seem to be a realistic idea...
