Has anyone seen, tried, or priced the Auto World John Force Drag Strip Set? Looks very cool, was wondering if it's worth buying.

Last I heard (which was just a couple days ago) it wasn't supposed to be 'released' until the middle or end of August. There was some talk that it would be delayed longer, but that's been proven untrue, and it's still supposed to be out by the original date. I know there's a LOT of people waiting on it, myself included! ;D They are also supposed to release 6 new drag bodies mounted on the 4 gear chassis at the same time. I'm pretty sure they are Nostalgia Funny Cars, but I may be wrong. There are rumors circulating that AW is working on some ProStock bodies too. Gonna be interesting to see how this all plays out. I heard they were going to sell for about $120 when they come out. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I think they are coming out in August. They do look cool and should be a big seller. I plan on buying one to check it out. When they do release them one of the guys here (Mike Edwards of the MM/PS class ) will be doing a "How To" on installing a cheap timing system to the track as his time allows. That will make it nice for the tuners.

I think the introduction of this set could give HO scale drag a real boost! Kind of like the original Snake vs. Mongoose HW cars, kids (and adults) are going to be able to drag race in dens and living rooms. I can foresee a new NTRA series, based on these cars and sets -- everyone can run on the same track for testing, and pretty well know what to expect when you mail in your entry. I'm hoping that one of the electronics gurus comes up with an inexpensive timing system for the AW set -- from the description, it sounds like the sensors are already in place for start and finish line. The Pro Stocks bodies look pretty good in the pics, and I'm sure the custom painters and decal makers will turn out a variety of cars with different drivers and graphics. I'm with Matt, hopefully AW will come out with Mopar and Mustang bodies as well (even though the modern Pro Stocks all look like jelly beans to my old eyes). My only reservation is that AW quality control can be hit and miss. The AW four-gear chassis I've seen range from barely OK to truly awful. I've not tried any of the AW track, but fingers crossed that the rail heights are consistent and the joints make good connections. I wonder what voltage the drag race sets will use? Thanks, Rick V. Has anybody seen this advertisement yet? If it was post I missed it the first time around. It says "more drivers will follow". Bring on the Mopar prostocks.

Really cool stuff coming from AW. I wonder if those Pro Stocks and the Tony Pedregon F/C pictured are the actual slot cars or die cast?? They look so much better and have much more detail than the Force Funny Cars. Never been much of a 4 gear chassis fan but will have to have all of these.
It would be nice to see some better looking wheels like the ones on the P/S cars pictured and get away from those dated wheels on the Force cars and while their at it......... It wouldn't hurt to narrow up the front end a little. Kind of looks like a Fray Funny Car ;D

They do look much better than the Force cars. Bait and switch? <g> Rick V.

Yea I would have liked to have seen O Gage width track as well. Tim's, Carl's, and Greg's all look look more like a drag strip than the narrow track does.
But overall I think the set will be a home run, I know tones of folks that buy tracks for themselves and the kids to play with only to junk it shortly when the kids can't keep the cars on in the corner. This should be fun for a wider group of young racers.
On another note has anyone seen the more stock Mustang, Challenger, Chevy, and some sort of Toyota (lost interest at that point) Bodies NASCAR is trying in the Bush series (or whatever they are calling it this year)? I have only seen the Ford and Mopar, but they look mush more like Stock Bodies. I haven't been a big NASCAR fan lately, but it's a step in the right direction in my opinion.

Has anybody heard if they are going to have seperate power for each lane or a single pack??? If it's a single power supply like most sets that are sold.......... it would be benificial to get a good reaction on the lights. I think we have all experienced at one time or another playing around with sets that when the other guy falls off your car gets all the juice. Here is what looks to me like the die cast in the add. These are 1/24 scale awcustomdiecast.com/portfolio.asp

Yea, I don't think the actual cars will be tubbed that much!!! Would be nice, but then the bodies would probably be too wide...RM

The O gauge track width would of been really cool. Leave a little room for a scale static tree and some starting area lane seperation paint.
Overall I feel they have a big hit on their hands and applaud AW for their efforts. I really hope it brings some new found interest to HO Drag Racing.
