Go with as much shut down as you can. I'm guessing 4.6' to 6' will be plenty and have a towel or something soft at the end just in case the faster cars don't stop. On the shut down rail. Most definitely have no power here. The rebar wire should work fine for your shut down area. One thing we did with ours was shim under the rail towards the end of the shut down area to help the cars slow down using the magnetic downforce of the car. On the wire gauge. I'd use the same gauge for everything if you have it just to keep everything consistent with one another. For the controller hook ups we have hardware bolts. We drilled holes through a 2 by 4 and installed the bolts for the drivers stand. Can't remember what size they are, they look like 1/4" by 4". Leave about a half an inch on the bottom side to hook up your track wires. Good luck Dave, don't hesitate to post anymore questions if you have any. We'd be glad to help you out. Oh yeah, take pictures of your track when your done. We'd love to see it. Sam

So I went to get a 1/32 router bit at lowes and couldn't find one. On the hoslotcarracing.com site it says to use a 1/16'' high speed router bit. Well I can't find either, maybe I'm looking for the wrong bit. Anyone have any input on this? I'm also looking for table saw blade the will cut 1/16'' guide pin slot but my neighbor whose doing all the work only has a 1/8'' blade. Thanks alot
Dave

Dave, I got the info your looking for. It was purchased from Home Depot.
It's Black and Decker 7-1/4" Pirahana 1/16" wide Stock # 77-7737
made for a circular saw but works with table saws also.

Be VERY careful with a 1/16' blade on a table saw!
Not to preach, I've just seen some very nasty accidents!

Safety is always a concern around power tools.
Just curious, what was the direct cause to these accidents?

I've seen blades come apart and sail around a shop when put in tools they weren't designed for. Such as speed and torque. I don't know what size table saw you are using so I may be way off base. Just offering a word of caution.
On a more fun note, as a result of of a bit coming apart, I once has to pull a piece of one out of my girlfriends very nice backside once ;D

life does have its compensations ...lol btw why was she sitting on the saw?? lol j/k
I have used table saws and all sort of power tools for about 45 years without injury. It is likely because I have never stopped being a LITTLE BIT AFRAID of the tool.

Table saws are the worst. They don't give, they just chew and spit. I had a piece of oak splinter (about the size of three toothpicks) and shoot up my finger from the tip to the palm. It had to be surgically removed. No way to anticipate it or protect myself. It happens before you know it!

Well I bit the bullit and ordered a Slotcarsinc track, the 15.3' with a total of 20'. Hopefully it will be here in a week. The fellow on ebay said with can be run with high power so I will prolly use 2 batteries like my original plan. Will let everyone know how it is and will get good pics of it.

If you are new to HO Drag racing and wanting to get involved, not sure about something don't be shy. Ask questions. There is a great group of enthusiastic people here that are more than happy to help and answer questions from building a car to building your own track. There is no such thing as a silly question. Take a look at this section for more info on getting started www.psychoslots.com/index.cgi?board=gs
