The Twisted Texan and Migraine Mustange are going to be heading to Lion Dragstrip again this year. The Mustange made it to the semi finals last year, but was trailered by my friend and fellow Texan slotfather. Both cars have now moved forward on the desk into the tuning area now that the "Curse of the Hearse" build is complete. I hope to make an improvement on my performance this year. Lions in my opinion is one of the best, if not the best event of the year. Always look forward to running at Rick's event.
Once these builds are complete, I am looking forward to starting my airbrush learning curve in Nov. and Dec. I now have everything I need to get started, just have to get it all set up and begin. Hopefully that will move me into the next level of customizing.

Well......I was optimistic that I would be able to squeeze some more speed out of my cars, but that is proving to be difficult. They are not responding like I had hoped, so I got them as fast as I could and put them up. Built an all new AFX chassis yesterday and will mess around with it today. If I don't see an improvement I am going to send what I got and hope for the best. I will be happy to make top 5.......10??

This was my first AFX chassis build and I can definitely say it is a much better chassis to work with ( I already knew that though ). I will be using these more, but continue with the AW as well. I think I need to be able to build with current production stuff. The experiment has paid off as I was able to find some more speed. It's not blistering, but I feel a little better. Maybe they will wake up in California. Cars will be on the road on Wednesday. Good luck to all racers really looking forward to this one.

First airbrush project. It's an old Tyco dump truck that I modified to be the Angry Jeff Racing car hauler. Learning about reducing paint and proper air pressure (whatever that is). I've done some research online, but there doesn't seem to be a set pressure for everything. Trial and error to find out what works best for me I guess. I am using a standard Testors Aztek brush to learn with, but have a Paasche on hand after I learn more. Rigged up a mini paint booth with exhaust so that I can paint in the house. All the respect to you customizers!!!

Very cool Sam! I missed all (3) of these threads. I guess I need to go back thru the forum for all the others I've missed. Thank you very much!

OK it's taken me awhile to finish this project up. Quite the learning curve with the airbrush. Also was working on some other things. None the less it is complete. Not my best work, but I really didn't expect it to be. I tried using a type paint that was more involved than I thought it would be. So that didn't help with the learning curve. In fact, it slowed me up a lot. Still having fun and I did get better. Switching paint is going to help tremendously. More respect than ever to you customizers!!!
Not sure what the NTRA Officials are looking at??

Good looking hauler!!! Those US 1 trucks are great for haulers, plenty of torque. Not sure what type/paint trouble you were having. Try some spray can paint. Spray it through a straw into a cup, then pour into your airbrush cup. If the paint is too thick, add a little thinner...RM

It was Createx airbrush paint I was using. Learned there are a lot of steps in using that paint, curing, applying decals, clearing, etc. The paint was also very transparent and took too many coats for coverage. My flame lines were very thick. Couple that with me learning to properly reduce paint and playing with air pressures..........I was able to salvage it. I will definitely use your suggestion. Going to try ModelMaster paint as well. Looking good Jeff, How did you do the lettering and star? .............. Peter Peter the flag and the lettering are decals. Used the Testors program for those. Only the flames are painted and those were my first attempt. They are the Flamemask stencils. Very easy to use and top quality!! Do you airbrush your builds or use a can? Your builds are some that I always look forward to. Thanks for the good word. JJ

Guess I should have mentioned, I like Duplicolor lacquer base paints, the touch up cans. They dry fast, can watersand and respray any time in case you get a boo boo or need to recoat. I've also used lacquer base fingernail polish which requires a lot of thinner, mix about like water consistancy. Just about any lacquer base paint will intermix, so any lacquer clear should work for your topcoat...As with anything, results and opinions may vary...RM

Very good tips. I will try for sure. You answered a couple of questions I had with that post. I did auto body and painting right out of High School for about 5 years. Loved it and thought I would be doing it the rest of my life. Didn't work out that way, but I am remembering some of the things I learned way back then and they do still apply somewhat. Can't thank you enough for sharing. Not going back to the can for any reason. It's air brush or die.....lol.
