do you use a decal set solution? white vinegar thinned with distilled water works nicely. I think all retail decal set solutions are just that.

Al I use Micro Set and Micro Sol, but not on everything. I did not use any on this particular set of decals. That may have helped the decal to set into the crease better, but this is operator error......I just did not get it in there. It was close....so close that I didn't see it. I will pay more attention next time. Thank you for the vinegar and water tip. I did not know that. After smelling the Micro Set....that exactly what it smells like. I am going to take your tip and use it more in the future. Thanks.

FINALLY finished the '62 Pro Mod truck. I have had more trouble with this build than any previous project.....EVER! The truck actually started out green on top and black on the bottom. I screwed up the fade I was trying so it became a black truck with red accents. I then had a major bout with fisheyes which everyone can see below. I thought I would post on this to show that things can be done at all stages of a build to save it. Even the final clear stage. I am learning that mistakes and problems are part of customizing. Sometimes you've got to roll with it. This truck is far far from perfect, but it has turned out to be a keeper. It was originally built for a customer, but I have had soooo much trouble with it that I believe I will build them another one and keep this one in the AJR garage. I have narrowed the fisheye problem down to the product that I was using. I don't know what happened, but something did and it was almost overnight. I have always had some kind of fisheye issue since I started using it, but it has been fairly minor. I thought it was something I was doing but it is definitely the product. It is an automotive 2 part urethane clear and maybe it just doesn't like the airbrush.....I really don't know. First couple of pictures show the severity of the fisheyes. First coat was a light coat and then this happened on the heavier second coat. I went ahead and put another third heavy coat on which continued with fisheyes just to give me some more material in case I wanted to sand it. Looking back now, I'm glad I did that. Needless to say I was pretty disgusted.
I ended up wet sanding the truck with 800 and then 1000 grit as far down as I could without going through the clear. I then sprayed 3 heavy coats of the rattle can clear I am now using (Rustoleum Custom Premium lacquer gloss clear) and wet sanded again with 1000 grit. Finished with rubbing compound....polishing compound....then a carnuba wax. It's not perfect, but it is a keeper.
I had also previously posted about the lacquer clear that I was using to seal the decals and the paint actually got underneath and ate up the Helter Skelter decal on the passenger door. I cut back the bad part of the decal and overlayed another identical decal over the top. It turned out pretty good as well. This build has been a handful, but I learned a lot. Hope these posts might help somebody.

Next two projects in the AJR garage are beeeeautiful Hairy Canary resins that have been in my lot of bodies for quite awhile. I'm tired of doing my own bodies and trucks. Time to dig into the box and with Doorslammers running in the next event it's no brainer....more Pro Mods ! Not sure on color or design yet but the canvases are a blown '63 Corvette Pro Mod and a nitrous '70 Mustang Pro Mod. These are killer!! Miss your stuff Rick!

Got some new 4 gear stuff for two completely new builds. I am not going to use anything from the previous two 4 gear List chassis I have been running. These will be all new. I am using AFX Specialty chassis...one MT and one non MT. Using DR-1 rear rims to start with and see how they work. These are being built to run on the 4GO list....fastest will get the job. I have retired the Thunderbird and am not happy with the Precision C10 truck I ran at the last list meeting, so an Angry Jeff Racing '70 Pro Mod Mustang will be the body going forward.

Good luck Jeff, I will be running my old 4G slug but the 57 Vette should make a challenge for #1.

I'm almost done with my new 4 gear Comp builds. Neither of these AFX chassis have traction magnets so I needed to add some. I always have trouble trimming and gluing traction magnets on these chassis and once they are glued that's it....they can't be moved. If I want to try a different tire size, I have to break the magnet loose, shim it, and reglue it. Meanwhile I'm butchering and making a mess of a clean chassis. Soooo.............I decided to try and make an adjustable traction magnet set up. What I came up with is something I've seen on one or a couple of cars that have been sent to me sometime in the past. I think they were Rick's, but I'm not sure. I might do a "How To" on it sometime in the near future. I used some styrene tubing...shimmed and bonded to chassis...drilled it out to accept a standard body mounting screw....filed the head of the screw and glued a neo dot on top. The magnet screws into the tubing and can be adjusted up or down. The key is a good bond and proper clearance to chassis/wheel and alignment with the track rails. I have only made some baseline passes with both chassis, but it looks like it's going to work very well. Pictures are a little dark.
An AJR 1970 Mustang Pro Mod will be the 4GO car going forward.

Clever idea Jeff, anxious to see how it performs in testing.

Jeff yes my 4G cars I’ve been using the adjustable traction mags. My first ones I did was pretty much like how you did yours. The last ones I did I used a solid piece of round styrene drilled and taped it all the way through and used a set screw with the magnet super glued and I’m able to use a Allen wrench to adjust it from the top. I don’t know the sizes and dimensions but will post later if anyone is interested ?

I did not and don't want to take all of the credit for the idea or design. I was going off of memory of what I remembered and engineered it as I went. First set I had to play around with......second set installed much easier. I thought it was a great idea the first time I saw it, but have not tried to duplicate till now. If I may ask......how or what are you using to bond the styrene to the chassis? I ended up using JB Weld. It definitely has the best strength but takes forever and a day to cure. Thanks. This set up as it sits in the pictures weighs 1 gram less than a stock AW 4 gear chassis .
