I built one like that with an aluminum T Jet top plate like that. I cannot find them on e bay anymore either. It has held up well do far with stock type T jet pressed on cluster gears, but soldering is a good idea. I did have to solder the crown gear. Performance has been impressive even at 20 volts. I see you are running some long braid on the pickups, I found that I picked up some extra performance with the long braid over short 1/4" braid on the Unlimiteds. T jet aluminum top plate

I thought RT-HO had them, but they weren't on the site.

Whats the weight difference on the aluminum plate to original? I wanted to try those out but never bit the bullet yet.

Whats the weight difference on the aluminum plate to original? I wanted to try those out but never bit the bullet yet. I didn't weigh just the top plate. But here's a quick comparison. My PSO Mustang AW XT chassis with two traction magnets and a brass wheelie bar weighs 17g even. The Unlimited AFX MT chassis with the same set up and ALL brass gears including crown is 18.1g. I don't know about anybody else, but I will take that any day. One gram on an Unlimited is not much compared to the advantage of all metal gears IMHO. I am really impressed with this top plate. It is well engineered. If you can find one I would buy it for sure. I wish I had gotten more than one. I think I will be ready for first pass tomorrow night. One more thing.....these Wizzard silli foams were well worth the wait!! Beautiful tires!! I want more....

Pro Track makes the the aluminum AFX & Tjet top plate and lightweight aluminum gears if you want them. They sent me this yesterday as an update on my inquiry from about a year ago on a 4 gear setup. They will be released very soon. Bob said the gear train turns as smooth as silk, this should allow for some .3's in 4G.

I knew somebody would know where to get them. Is there a link to their site? I am definitely in with the 4 gear setup too! It's gonna get good. Thanks!

Hi Jeff, I have just sent you an email with the details. I hope you get it okay. They don’t appear to be listed on their site but I find they are very helpful via email.

Here's a quick pic of my shunted brush set up. I did my shunts like Eagle did his. I drilled the hole all the way through the brush, inserted the shunt wire to where the end protruded out slightly, and glued in place. I use Gorilla Glue Gel on everything so that's what I used instead of the Loctite brand. The idea, as Eagle said, is to use a gel so that it does not penetrate the shunt wire. I don't think it matters if the spring is touching the shunt or is insulated from the brush. The addition of the shunt wire gives the amperage more conductor therefore less heat. The extra amps of the low ohm arms trying to go through the tiny brush spring is where the heat is being generated. I did not post a picture of the brushes because they look just like what Eagle already posted. I left a longer pigtail for a little more flexibility and I wanted to terminate by soldering as the picture shows. I really like this idea and it looks to be working. I made three passes in the .4's. I still need to do a little fine tuning to the brush set up but I think this is the way to go. I will be upgrading my 4g Unlimiteds to this next. This car has more potential. It is still accelerating through the traps and the 60' is not near as quick as it should be. Traction magnet work as well. Does anybody have a good supplier of traction magnets they would like to share. Something around the same size as the AW round magnets. AW acts like they are gold or something.

I've been using these from home depot. There in the nails and screws section. Some cars I have grinded the side straight to get up next to the tire. They are just a bit bigger than an autoworld magnet pocket.

Looks good Jeff, glad the brush setup is working. Certainly makes sense that it would. Gonna have to give it a go myself.
I buy all my magnets from K&J Magnetics ( link) , they ship fast and have always been easy to deal with, for me anyways.
