Peter and friends, Im just looking to have some faster cars with my own winds in them. I wondered about the type of epoxy because heat can be an issue. (I have used heat to soften epoxy for removal-I build fishing rods. The heat gun is a great tool to help strip epoxy from an old rod. So... I have concerns about the types of epoxy and its resistance to heat.)
Im new here, but not new to tjets. Im not a professional in this hobby, delving into the motors this deep is much more than I have done before. For me its all about fun and finding people who like to share in it.

I used neo mags for both 32 & 34 arms. Had the 34 arm hit some .29s which aint bad and it would beat the 32s at times. The highest polys I used were the level 10s which work well with 3 ohm arms. I have also heard there are higher level polys but have never tried them. I kind of think the Inlines will take over eventually just due to sheer numbers. I don't mind running the Jets and AFX style but the 4 gear is such a dumb design.... I like a challenge and still might tackle building a superior gear plate in the future.
Dave if you like a challenge then you should try building a N/TF 4gear. It's right up your alley with basically only two rules, that is must be a 4gear chassis and a front engine dragster body. This class will be running this March in Texas. I double dog dare you to try your skills at building one. I love this...... ......Dave done been called out by Phantom b.s.e., is smack talk just around the corner. What will Dave do? Will he except the challenge? Everybody knows that building in line cars is waaaaaaaaay easier than building an unlimited 4 Gear. STAY TUNED RACE FANS!

I am just getting weary of the constant 4 gear bashing. Whether it's dumb, inferior, etc. I think it's probably going to be here for awhile and is the most popular chassis running on the forum at this time. It's another style of chassis to go along with the rest of them. Dave I agree with Phantom....you need to start working on you own version of a F.E.D. and get it entered in March. Class will run again at the Summer Nationals. Keyword on this build.............gears!!

You should have all the makings for an N/TF build and you could run one of your own motor creations or someone elses. I know that I sent you some gear blanks for a gear plate that will survive. I would like to see it. Join in and let the Green Monster live again as a pancake car.

I don't remember any of the 2 gear inline FED hybrids making enough noise in this class for me to want to change from the 6 gear builds that the class is based on

I figure I can reduce the drag and increase strength quite a bit but it is going to take some engineering. Gear ratios are terrible in the 4 gear something like 3.5-1 that would need to be changed a lot also. The plate would only resemble the original but be very different and most likely not be plastic. I have been able to get the superior 3 gears well into the .4s and with a better design the extra gear should only slow it down slightly. Never have been a fan of dragsters of any kind but for a race I will make an exception. Are Inlines easier to build than 4 gears, absolutely. Are the inlines twice as quick, absolutely. To me it's like running the old flathead Ford vs a modern V-8, no comparison. Only a few accepted the challenge to go as quick as they could with 3 gear or inlines so maybe it is not so easy after all. I have no idea why there are so many races and bodies for 4 gears. I have 50-60 + 3 gear chassis and a like amount of inlines but only maybe 5 4 gears. Why would I want to beat my head on the wall with something that is inherently slower and a lot more trouble. Yes I might accept the challenge just to prove I can do it, and I am sure I can, but how many others want to go thru the trouble.

I am sure you have seen them. Mine is just one of them. I have adapted the Tjet cluster design to the 4g top plate. All ratios are still stock, but I change the final drive ratio with crown gear and tire size. If I can help you get kickstarted just let me know. The stock gear and top plate are good till about .50et. Then it is making enough power to tear itself apart. So you could build something without having to go to the design table just yet and you still have plenty of time. .50et cars have won races in this class several times when the faster cars destroy themselves. I would love to see you enter the March race with something. It would be a start and as I said before, the class runs again at the Summer Nationals. 2014 Summer Nationals biggest of (5) classes was the N\TF class.

I don't know if I can get what I am thinking of ready in such a short time. Less than a month. Don't think any of the stock stuff will last or work. We will see. At least we are getting some discussion going and that is always good as it keeps interest up. I have been only doing this a short time but I have learned a lot on this site + all my testing and it keeps me interested. A challenge is always something to rise up to. If this class will be run at 26 volts as it has previously I know my 3 gears could run in the .3s as they were in the mid .4s on only 20 volts and they had no problems, even the crown gear held up with proper clearance. With a superior plate design I am sure .4s would be no problem with 4 gears.

We don't run 3g against inlines...inlines against 4g...or 3g against 4g. Times are going to be different for each one so none of that matters. You created those outlaw builds on your own...no prior classes in place and nobody had very much time to pull anything together....similar to you now so I completely understand. Maybe you can't pull anything together for my race.......that's fine. But maybe you can for the Summer Nats. Give it some thought...if this class and chassis is not for you then no worries. It was just an invitation to participate in a popular NTRA class.

I guess this thread got way off the initial subject. Just wanted to say I had never built one of the hot cars before either and I only had about a month to get them ready to. It was all new to me and that includes T jet, AFX and Inline. I just did more research than everybody else. If I build a 4 gear it will probably be unrecognizable from what it started out as. They did state anything goes just 4 gears and a front engine dragster body.
