first of all i would like to say hello to all this is my first post and i'm hoping someone can be of help. i've been in the trucking industry most of my life, most of it as a semi trailer tech and fabricator. i remember a time when drag trucks graced the circuit and as a kid built a static model of the BANDAG BANDIT. i am planning to scratchbuild an HO version from brass (soldering is easy compared to welding ) the body should be straightforward old Kdubs were pretty squared off i just don't know what i need for gears motors and such so any help would be appreciated thanks in advance mike

When I drag raced full size cars there were many modified pickups running down the track. There are numerous HO bodies available out there for pickups, even semi's. As far as a chassis building one out of brass would be interesting but not practical. I remember building brass chassis for bigger scales and as soon as they take a good shot they are out of alignment. With all the very strong and reliable plastic chassis around I would adapt one of those to whatever body you like.

Mike, Believe AutoWorld , makes truck & trailer..... others may have. Might be best to look into to get idea of size and what chassis might work.
If you're building chassis a square "can type" motor is probably the easiest.

Thank you for the replies, after posting last night i have found a couple of places online that seem to have everything and they use paypal which makes me feel a bit more secure. i was contemplating a brass chassis but the main reason (besides the challenge of doing it) was because this will only be used on my track here at the house to my knowledge there isn't any tracks within a reasonable distance to me. i did have another question are the tires available for HO the same id? i have found complete tyco rear axles with the crown gear and wheels but would like to use the larger drag tires from afx or aurora which ever it was(sorry still learning)

tyco axles are 0.059 and Aurora axles are 0.063. Aurora wheels will not stay on Tyco axles. there are many different tire sizes to choose from and many manufacturers of same. soon, there will be some suggestions who to buy from.

AFX was the company that made the drag tires/rims. They are still available on E bay and other places. You want the rim that utilizes the full tire as they also made a large rim that used a partial tire. As Al said you will need the bigger axle so the rim will stay on. Gears for AFX style cars are readily available. In the future you may be interested in some of the Proxy races we hold here. You send your car/truck in and we race it for you. You get to watch what happens with pictures and also a description of the race.

Just to let you know Matchbox Slot Cars made both of the trucks. Jags Hobby has the Bandit. Link to Bandit jaghobbies.com/ho_slot_cars/matchbox_cars.htmYou can find the Boss on Ebay often.

Mike, being new you brought up a point without knowing. Rules & schedule have been getting finished up. Body styles have been......mmmm expanded to other chassis. Bikes are scheduled as exhibitions. I don't recall trucks ever being brought up. Past race at , Doug's. Had a whole rig show up....... trailer & all. That was for the outlaw hurst........ Think this could be a fun class and bears some discussion.......
