A couple of Qs about the arm gear pullers.
1. For Dave, is the one you are talking about, the metal one that costs $60+?
2. How does the slotted xacto blade help? Dies it take some of the flex out of the gear plate?
Wondering if something like a mini pitman arm or steering wheel puller would work

#2, I think it does take the flex out of the gear plate.

Yes Bill, that's the one. Works fair on T jets but not so hot on AFX chassis. The main problem with most pullers is that they will not fit under the pinion. The 60 $ one uses the stock top plate which is generally not strong enough to hold the pressure especially with the AFX chassis even with the metal support strip.

It does help to take the flex out of the chassis. It was the only thing I could come up with that was thin enough and stout enough. Anything else that I tried would just deform or bend. Have been fortunate enough that the gear lets loose before the modified blade shatters. I'll try to post some pictures in the next couple days, might make more sense.

I made that plate out of a backing plate from a brake pad. Very thin and strong. I use it with the blue print tool I got. Definitely stiffins up the afx plate to get the gear off.ill add a picture.

Thanks for sharing this info guys. I had been considering ordering one of those $60 pullers. It would be a shame to spend that kind of money just to get something that doesn’t work very well. It will probably be better to try to make one like Gale’s

"Plate out of a backing plate from a brake pad." That sounds interesting, the one that comes with the 60 $ one is way to weak.

Gale,
That's a great idea to slow these cars down. Thanks for sharing.

Raining here today so was at the track/bench getting reacquainted. Ran across this gear puller I acquired off ebay last April. It fits T-Jet and 3 gear really well. Wouldn't fit 4 gear so thru it in a drawer and forgot about it. The vendor was tovegro, I looked, doesn't have anything up presently. Anyways, due to the taller shoulder on the 4 gear plates I filed on it a little so it would fit. Fits great now. Seems like a nice puller, IMHO but some of you might have more experience with it than I.
Just passin' on info

I have bought some of the tovegro tool sets. I like what you have done to modify that puller. always something good going on at Good Time Speedway!

There was that old TV commercial about Minolta cameras. "From the brilliant minds at Minolta". Today more from the brilliant minds at Good Times Speedway.
