Let me make a couple of suggestions for the shut down. You might want to put a cushion at the very end. Rolled up towel would work fine. For those cars that might make it under the towel. Also a cover over the top. Sometimes cars like to become airborn when they catch the towel just right. How do I know these things? Well they have happened to me on several occasions. Luckily they were only with my cars and I made the adjustments so it would not happen again. Just a couple of things to think about. I am getting more and more pumped every minute!! On the tire cleaning....does the masking tape adhesive come in contact with the pick ups or braids when you are rolling the cars? Sounds good. Won't be any problem to put a top on it. I'll put some of that soft foam on the underside plus on the sides. So, it's better for the cars to hit a rolled up towel rather than that foam I have there?
On the tire cleaning ... no, the rails on that piece are about .03" high and the masking tape is stuck flat to the surface through out. I'll probably fabricate a little carriage system for the fronts of the cars to set in, so there won't be any doubt about shoes or braids touching the adhesive.

Thanks. I got the Dodge two level and the yellow Ford with the flatbed in the background at Hobby Lobby several years ago. They both came with a car....a '70 Charger and a '70 Torino. The blue tilt bed in the background is a USA1 dump truck that I converted into a tilt bed hauler. They all live at the dragstrip for decoration. Thanks Jeff, I checked out Hobby Lobby here locally and they do carry a dump truck similar to your converted one but not much else. I wound up grabbin' a couple 1 car haulers from ebay. Someday though I'll get me one of those two level jobbies cause I think they're cool . Those car carrier haulers are not only available at Hobby Lobby but WalMart of all places. If I remember correctly they are made by M2.

Im sorry Gale, I did not see the foam in the box. It blended in with the color of the walls. Your shut down is plenty long and cars have plenty of room to stop. I have no concerns. My suggestions were just that....suggestions. You have a top shelf set up! I'm trying to stay calm waiting for the show. I know I appreciate your efforts and enthusiasm!

I would like to get a couple of the one car trailers like Dave632 has. I have a couple, but they are more like farm type tractor trailers than car trailers.

I thought your suggestions were noteworthy & valid, that's why I posted the video; to get responses . Appreciate your input! I will be tightening up the containment area. Not worth the risk of someone's car leaving the track, that would definitely ruin my day . Going to re-think the tire cleaning procedure also. I want it quick & easy with no possibility of adhesive contamination. Anyone, anymore suggestions ... ? I'm all ears . Thanks again, Gale

For what it's worth, I use a roll of masking tape with the first 6" or so turned back on itself so the adhesive faces up to clean tires. I will roll the back tires only on the tape.

As Jeff stated make sure the tape does not hit the pickups. I would add some cushioning at the finish, such as foam padding, just in case one gets thru the towel.

I use duct tape from the dollar store and/or blue masking tape. just want to take the dirt off, not apply stickum to the tires or pull chunks off the tires. your shut down looks adequate, I will say that your towel needs to be within the containment box. if it is at the leading edge and a car decides to fly or "rebound" off the towel it might not stay in the containment area. fluff the towel a bit so that it has some waviness to it, that will allow compression with trying to rebound. folks have found out that using straight foam rubber or similar gives too much rebound (think of the cushions on a billiard table) and the car (especially those with braid) will suffer severe consequences. put me in for two inline entries please.

Yeah, that's the way I've cleaned tires for the last 50 years or so. I was just tryin' to come up with a quicker way to save a few seconds here & there .

Cars look good on your track Gale. Those two pairs run within a few thousandths of each other normally and should be a good race if they meet in eliminations. The 55 Chevy is powered by a DR chassis while the 57 has a Viper chassis.

Track's looking hot gale hope you have fire extinguisher! I used a GTS run block to make a tire cleaner that works well, not only does it clean tires but warms the car a little to. I believe thier is pictures of it in rewind on Woodward thread .simply shortened block and placed two sponges in a plastic box with no lid wet one spong fair and the other sponge not so much. Do short burn out on the one to clean and the other to dry. Will try to get pictures posted later today

Thanks all, for the "kudos" on the track! I'm anxious for it to fulfill everyone's expectations for performance, looks ain't everything . I remember you posting pictures of some kind of conversion but don't remember the tire cleaning part of it. Do you just use water on the sponges?
About 10 years ago when the kids & nephews used to come over to race frequently on the road course, we cleaned tires with a sanding drum wrapped with masking tape in a drill. I knew it wouldn't fly for proxy racing so didn't bother presenting it. It worked good and was fast & easy for our needs at the time.
