Kindly pardon the newbie questions. I don't understand the purpose of the shark pool? The Shark Pool is for those cars that are not on a List but want a shot. If there are more than one car, they will race against each other. The winner will get a chance to Call Out the #10 Spot. If they win that race they are on the List and can start to move up. This all came from the Street Outlaws TV show. We started with 5 cars on the list and later on increased it to 10. We did not initially fill all the spots but lately there have been many Shark pools trying to get a shot at the Gate Keeper, or the # 10 spot. It has gotten tougher thru the years to just get on the list just as it happened on the TV show. The original Gate Keeper there was the Farm Truck which was a 7+ second 1/8th mile car back then. Those cars were actually street cars back then, now they are full blown race cars. Even the Farm truck is a mid 5 second 1/8th mile car and it can't get near the list.

I kindly thank everyone for helping me figure out the rules about the top gears. Dash gears with a standard tooth count are legal. That's what I'm using.
I'm a newbie and already I agree with Uncle Dave632. I can't see why anyone would mix brands of top plates and tubs. The top plate rule is fairly clear "Top plate and chassis must match". I'm good with that.
Cheers, Ken

Hi Dave,
Thank you very kindly for the deeper expanation about the shark pool.
I'm happy to simply get started with two cars, one in each class. Then sit back and watch. Too much to learn and figure out at the very beginning.

Ken always remember when in doubt ask it out. I don't think anyone knows everything. If they think they do, they don't lol.

Sam and Al,
Thank you. You are both very kind.
There's always someone that comes up with a question or two that crosses the line into a sort of grey area.
How long is a piece of string?
Is it farther to New York, or by bus?
The answer to the second question is "I kinda like the bus, myself"

Ken, sometimes I ask questions which the answer is obvious (some people call that rhetorical) for many reasons. I did that earlier in this thread just so it could be properly pointed out correctly.
I encourage everyone to ask questions even if the answer is somewhere easily accessible. just because it CAN be found doesn't necessarily mean it WILL be found.

Hi Al,
I truly appreciate your help.
I read the rules many times. But until I actually get into racing. Some stuff will make me scratch my head. Newbie growing pains.
Fin's grandchildren have Fin to help get them started. I have myself and... *the sound of crickets*.
It's all good. I'll probably have questions for other classes as I try to build cars.

Good day Dragon π Mate Ken My frist race November 2019,Was with one car built a Great Friend π€ I'm still confused, your not alone. Even though I can take them apart π€ and put them back together, They still don't always run and so many rarly win races, I have a draw full of ones that never made it past the frist race, and the 2 Trophys I have, well those cars were also gifts that were built by the same Friend. AL Is right ! always π€ ask questions Think on this the Race requires a 14 ohm Armature. So i took around 22-25 of my collection apart looking for a 14 ohm Pancake Armature π€ͺ There still apart all in one draw. From Fin

Hello Mr Fin,
Thank you very kindly for the warm welcome.
It keeps things simple when you only have one mean green armature for gasser, and only two 4-gear cars. I may need to order a few more of everything.

Best place to buy mean greens is Jag hobbies. 4.50 ea and they will ship fist class. You can buy 10 at that price then run a batch of them to see which one runs best.

I may need to order a few more of everything. Ken Ken, Welcome and good luck with your first attempt. Whatever happens donβt get discouraged. We were all newbies at one time. My first attempt was a complete flop. Just keep trying and you will soon start to get results. Never be afraid to ask questions as the guys on here will go out of their way to help . My cars have to be sent a lot earlier than most as I live in England, so shipping takes a lot longer.

Thank you very kindly, Dave and Mazda.
Here's another newbie question. Is it better to buy 10-arms for $45 and hope to get lucky? Or buy one dynamically balanced quality arm at a much higher price?
Dave. What do you do with the 9-lesser armatures that were left in the drawer?
Thanks, Ken
