Was going to suggest soldering it to the bottom of the brass plate, but it appears that you already did that. Could it have been a weak solder joint? Surface may have had a bit of oil on it. It might be worth a try to scuff it real good then clean both surfaces with brake cleaner or alcohol and solder it back together. Another idea to consider, run a bolt through it and secure a nut with loctite. Since it’s right under the gear plate clip, that would create another problem to resolve. Bill What a great idea With a small nut and bolt 🔩 Could drill a hole into the top plate Clip , We're if used a screw, the head would be smaller and rounded, Would have to be tested. Fin

Have not had that problem with those yet but I am sure I will. Bills idea is good.

I had that happen to me and I found that the bushing is slightly undersize for the hole and also the idler gear, I just took a small tapered punch and expanded the ID of the bushing with the idler gear installed and that made it where it cannot fall through plate as this makes the bushing slightly larger now and also use some Loctite 680 on the bushing for added insurance, I hope this helps.

I will do this as a preventative on both my plates, but I haven't experienced any problems with the first one other than the height the motor is above the brushes.
